Is Beaumont the capital of Texas?

More like BEAUMONT, TX --- lots of oil & gas rednecks and Mexicans

What would Baton Rouge be like without LSU?
You ever visit Baton Rouge during the summer? It would be like that. Not a lot of fun stuff going on but regional businesses boom as plant turnarounds and expansions ramp up.

Baton Rouge has one refinery.
It’s not an oil and gas town

Shreveport, in all honesty. Shreveport is very similar to BR minus LSU. They have LSUS but that is not really comparable. BR is bigger than Shreve/BC but if given LSU the population would grow alot and be more comparable. My opinion any way.
Obligatory: Muh Shreveport is Tx/ north of 1-10 not Louisiana.

this is true. There is def industry there but its not like they're really drilling in BR. They do have the refinery and some big reserves though. It wouldn't be false to say BR is oil based to a degree, but then again so is the entire state.
And you say Alex, but once upon a time LSU was in Pineville. That could have really changed the dynamic had it stayed there. But I am glad it did not.

Um. Summer starts after the CWS.

It’s actually the principal reason it became a decent sized city. It was sort of a small town when it was just the capital and main college town of the state.

Jackson is about 15% white. BR is about 40% but that's a little misleading because of our annexation laws. Most people consider the St George area to be BR but it's not counted in those stats. So it's not very similar from a demographics standpoint if that's where you were going. Jackson has better suburbs than BR.
I think BR is a lot like Little Rock if you dropped the University of Arkansas near downtown. It's trending in the wrong direction though.
