I envision free space retail centers in the near future. Open and inviting spaces with easy drive up access and covered to shield from the elements.

Retailers will have all their items presented on easy access display stands. Leave your cash at home because these retail centers are not for the paying customer. No sir, these are designed to aid the more demanding clientele.

No longer forced to rush their bag filling and fight to find a nearby hidden exit. Shoppers are encouraged to grab a basket and casually walk along the rows and rows of isles hand selecting their products.

All this is yet another reason brick and mortar stores are becoming obsolete

If the merchandise was between $500.00 and $1000.00 why not hire an off duty cop for 200.00 a day and deal with this threat.

I’m surprised LPSO would not have a substation inside the strip mall and keep on deputy on duty 24/7 to patrol this area.

With Jubans recent growth, they really do need a couple deputies out there all the time.
Basically like beat cops, just make your presence known.

Non-violent crime. We need to stop putting folks in jail for theft. Doesn’t hurt anyone and they just become a better thief.

Many stores have a “zero intervention” policy on shop lifting. The potential injury liability far exceeds the lost product. Employees can be immediately terminated at some businesses for intervening in a possible theft.

I mean I get it but at the same time you’re just opening the door to thieves and allowing them to rob your store especially when it’s on video. They can certainly contract out a rent-a-cop or maybe have Juban Crossing beef up on security personnel.

I’m joking. But theft gets lumped in with muh weed dealers when talking about non violent crimes. frick that. Theft should be dealt with harsher.

1. Bump into one of them, or "accidently" knock their bag down

2. They retaliate

3. Shoot them

4. Profit

Store design can go a long way to preventing a lot of these incidents.

Dedicated pathways that separate entry and exit.

dedicated exit pathways that separate customers that are buying items and customers that are not buying items. in other words, you have to go to the check out areas in order to leave the store if you have product in your hands.

at that point, a couple of strategically placed security guards will do a lot of good

it is unfortunate, but the best way to prevent these thefts is to treat customers like herding cattle

The old days were fun.

Best one was when you see them running in the mirrors walk briskly with a basket where they run into the basket. I seen a store loss prevention employee do that a few times. One time someone ended up in the basket. The video was funny seeing how it was done. That is an old favorite.

This one was just luck or Karma.
Suspect ran over an older Asian lady running out of an Asian grocery store. He runs in the parking lot not paying attention. An old Asian man opens his door to get out of the vehicle. Suspect runs smack into the old mans door busting his front teeth and somehow breaks his jaw. Karma was in full play that day.

Over $1000 is felony theft so most of them likely crossed that threshold. Also, stores cannot just close the doors and lock everyone inside as that is false imprisonment.
