Is there a greater example than the viewers of organized sports?

That's what it's all about, identifying with the success or failure of your team. Folks are either elated or depressed this morning according to who won the super bowl.

What about the watchers of movies or tv shows?

The appreciaters of the arts?

You're a real dumbass.

I'm not

I haven't been sad the next day about a game since 1/10/12. And that wasn't living vicariously through my team. It was just disappointing

I don't watch sports, because I want to be Tom Brady, or Marshawn Lynch, but that's just me.

I wouldn't say people who just view sports and watch it as entertainment are living through others. But it's hard to argue that people who get depressed over losses and/or have a hatred of people who pull for a certain team isn't pathetic.

I had a training program for work that pulled in college grads from all over the country, and there was this one Alabama fan who would ask what college people were from and basically pre-judge them as a person based on the success of the football program of the college they attended. This is way more common than it should be. LSU has their fair share of people like this as well. We found it later that dude went to UAB. fricking awful.

Not sure why this would be true if "your team" wasn't in the Super Bowl. Dumb premise for thread is dumb.
