Very similar in Estonia... never pitch black, but sun rise at 1100, back down at 4.

I’m not limiting myself to any of that. If the right opportunity came along I’d obviously do whatever.

That's me.

The lifestyle here is definitely "work to live" and not "live to work"
If you dig it here, there's lots of opportunity if you don't particularly hold yourself to one thing.

The drive from Anchorage to either Valdez or Fairbanks can't be matched anywhere.

I drove around quite a bit of Alaska just a couple of weeks ago.

I drove...

1. Anchorage to Seward (Seward Hwy.)
2. Anchorage to Glennallen (Glen Hwy.)
3. Glennallen to Valdez (South end of the Richardson Hwy.)
4. McCarthy Road throught Wrangell-St. Elias.
5. Glennallen to Tok (Tok Cutoff)
6. Tok to Delta Junction (Alaska Hwy.)
7. Delta Junction to Glenallen (North end of Richardson Hwy.)
8. Fairbanks to just inside the Arctic Circle (about a fourth of the Dalton Hwy.)
9. Fairbanks to Anchorage (Parks Hwy.)

The part I enjoyed the most was the southbound drive from Glenallen to Valdez on the Richardson Hwy.

But as beautiful as all of those roads are, I still think the Icefields Parkway that runs from Banff to Jasper in Canada is a little better.

Old denail highway from Cantwell to Paxson is prettiest ride I've been on so far in my time in Alaska.

Great spot for blueberries

Ive never been to Alaska but driving the Alcan Highway has been near the top of my List (hate the term bucket list) for several years now.. 1400 miles starting at Dawson Creek Canada, all the way to Fairbanks.. supposed to be some of the most beautiful scenery on the planet.. Now, if i can just find a spare month to make the drive from Texas and back...

Take more if you can. I was thinking about doing it several years ago and mentioned it to my dad. He told me "I always wanted to do that, but now I'm too old". That clinched it, we took the summer off, and it's 3 months I wouldn't trade for anything.

My final observation of Alaska is, Everyone there looks like they work at the fair.

Pretty much my explanation

Move the Upper Peninsula of Michigan instead. It's like Alaska light. Beautiful scenery and longer winters but it's not like Alaska and the cost of living is so cheap. If you want outdoors and not a lot of people around you then the UP of Michigan is your place.

Nope. It's incredible every single day.

Sorry don’t believe you, you move on. Everyone does, you take it in on certain days just like everywhere else and when you go enjoy it. Your sales pitch doesn’t work on me, I lived it as well.

Same goes for if you love tropical areas and live in a tropical spot. It’s just part of living there and getting use to it.

No offense, but you sound like a miserable person.

Just because *your* experience has been a certain thing, doesn’t mean that’s how everyone else is.

Native Alaskan communities/villages.

ETA: Those communities have cultural/poverty issues.

Pretty serious problem in the villages. Not all villages are bad though, but sexual assault on native women accounts for half the sexual assaults in the state.
