We would prefer Greek Revival but Federalist could do. I’ve seen few 1840s+/- homes listed. Walkability to restaurants, schools, museums, etc. is mandatory.

I don’t think this exists in Baton Rouge, but I can give you a set of clues for you to find where Hitler’s racehorse is buried.

I have been gone a long time but the corner of Lobdell and Government has what looks like a beautiful enclosed neighborhood with that old plantation-looking home at the center. Not walking distance to anything. You are asking for a lot in Baton Rouge. It's a rough place. Maybe off Jefferson and Corporate in the gated neighborhood.

'The Bottom'

Bottoms , FIFY baw. It's plural. Got it's name from the area being the lower pools that gradually make their way to the Mississippi River. Think of the elevation drop down Government street.

Baton Rouge: come for the atmosphere, stay because the coroner hasn't released your body yet.

You're not going to find all of those things anywhere in Baton Rouge. Federalist style down here is pretty uncommon, Greek Revival is slightly less so but neither exist in any areas within walking distance "to restaurants, schools, museums, etc." You're either going to have a home near those things or you'll have the home style you want (unless you buy something in a location you like, tear it down, then build what you want).

Likely moving to BR. Suggestions…

The best suggestion I could probably make is that you do absolutely anything in your power, including - if it comes to it, taking less money to move somewhere else.

I grew up here and have raised my kids here. In the late 90’s until early 2000’s, I was part of several groups (Austin 6, Forum 35, et al.) who literally celebrated what we could do here. I was a fan of my town coming out of its waspsy, blue-laws driven shell.

And that time is passed.

It’s over.

This city is dangerous and trending mightily in a downward spiral. You don’t want to move here. It could very well cost you your life.
