A snowboarder in Lake Tahoe spent 15 hours in freezing temperatures while trapped overnight inside a ski lift gondola.

KCRA reports that Monica Laso was snowboarding with friends at Heavenly Ski Resort in South Lake Tahoe, California, when she decided to go down the mountain early. Laso boarded a gondola around 4:58 p.m., but was stranded without a phone two minutes later when the gondola stopped.

"I didn't have a phone, a light or anything," Laso told KCRA. "I screamed desperately until I lost my voice."

Laso's friends subsequently reported her missing to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office. “We were going crazy, no one knew anything between the police and security,” Laso's friend, Momo Shternhel, told the Tahoe Daily Tribune.

She wasn't discovered until Friday morning, when the gondola started up again for the day and crews realized she'd been there overnight. The South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue then received a call about a woman suffering from cold exposure at Heavenly Mountain Resort.

Laso declined to be hospitalized despite her condition. Meanwhile, the resort is currently looking into how Laso got stranded without the resort workers' knowledge.

“The resort is investigating this situation with the utmost seriousness,” resort vice president Tom Fortune told KCRA. "The safety and wellbeing of our guests is our top priority at Heavenly Mountain Resort."

Probably the one time in the last 15 years when she’s been without her phone for more than 5 min.

Life can be a mother fricker sometime.

I'll save them the time. The employees were stoned.

Investigation over.

That is pretty interesting. The mountain closes at 4pm, she got on a full 58 mins after that. The lifts run for some time after close, but not a hour after close.

I almost feel like she snuck on after they sent down the last one.

This is why you buy an actual ski ticket and don’t just bribe the guy in the line to let you past.

Your organization’s “top priority” was to leave work without checking to see if anyone was left on the lift there hoss.

I hope she sues the pants off them.

Laso declined to be hospitalized despite her condition.

Did she at least get the first run down on fresh powder? I mean, if she put up with all of that, I hope they let her snowboard down. Of course, if her lift ticket was expired as a one day only, they probably didn't

Ridden the Gondola many times and you definitely don’t just randomly hop on during business hours. There are multiple workers at the top and bottom. Guarantee she snuck on (it’s sort of enclosed) after the workers closed the entrance and were riding it down. Workers get to bottom-Gondola stops.
The ride is gnarly at times, but the views are beyond words.

This is a direct reference to the film in question.

The three people bribe a resort employee, go up, then he gets distracted and goes off to do something while telling someone “I just sent three people up”. Three people then come down the slopes and the second guy assumes that was them.

Result is them stuck halfway between the peak and the base with nowhere to go.
