Newer cars have the spare tires hidden and bolted in with some rubics cube shite that makes changing the tire completely cluster frick.
I’ve changed many a tire in my life, and my dad had me changing brake pads and bleeding brakes etc since before I could drive.
Last fall my wife’s newer suv had a flat on the interstate and I went to change it, and after an hour of hell, I gave up. I couldn’t figure out whatever riddle was needed to get the spare loose from under the car.

Some people are just three dimensionally challenged. I have zero mechanical anolity. I could change a flat but if you give me all day I could not figure out how to change windshield wipers. Kind of like being dyslexic with shapes. Kind of sucks

I do think you should know how to change a tire, but I don't think this is as big of a deal as y'all are making it. I've only had one flat tire in the past 15 years. I didn't know how to change one when it happened, but I followed the instructions in the car manual and was able to change it. With advances in technology, it just doesn't happen very often anymore.
Also, there is almost no reason for anyone under the age 30 to need to know how to drive a stick. Probably 98% of cars right now have automatic transmission, so why would you want/need to learn how to drive a standard?

Scruffy had a blowout and went to change the tire and the fricking “anti-theft key” strips. Couldn’t get it to latch.
Scruffy had to go rent a damn tow trailer to pull his car to the shop.
Had them remove all the bullshite “anti-theft nuts” and put normal ones.

Deeprig9 agrees with scruffy.

My daughter and I changed a flat on a tractor this morning in the rain. If I’m dressed appropriately I’m changing it. If not I’ll call someone. My kids know how to change a tire as well as keep air pressure up and they keep their vehicles clean as well.

I CAN change a tire. I choose not to. AAA FTW

I’m sure your husband is the first one you’d call.

Growing up, my family only had automatics, so that’s what I learned to drive. I’d like to learn to drive a stick, but I don’t know anyone with one.

I keep thinking. Teach your damn son to change a tire.

I can change a tire, change oil (not useful anymore) and wiper blades. That’s about the extent of my usefulness when it comes to automobiles.
ETA: headlight bulbs, fuses and little shite like that also. I think I could probably do a brake job but I wouldn’t trust my own work. Newer vehicles make what should be easy difficult sometimes.

You know they have that info in the owners manual.

See, if junior had been outside playing as a kid they would have had a bicycle, and would have had to first learn how to change the tire and put the chain back on, and so would have had to learn about hand tools, and that might have moved on to changing a tire on a go cart or motorbike, and if nothing else, it would have empowered them to realize they were not helpless little lambs, but were actually big boys growing into men, and they could handle something as mundane as changing a damn tire for goodness sake. But alas, they were inside playing with video games, and Barbie dolls for all we know, and never had the opportunity to develop any of the most basic skill sets to becoming a man, and were always the dependent ones that mommy and daddy had to wet nurse through life, and eventually grew up to having to depend upon everyone else to perform the most basic tasks in life.

He could have at least YouTube'd it.

Yeah, that's a bad one. The other one I can't stand is the Allstate (I think) one where the parents are in bed (the dad looks like a mega cuck douche) and the limp-wristed son is trying to explain the dent in the car. Dad sits there looking like a turd while mom sets the weak-arse punishment.

If there were more manual transmissions there would be less texting and driving.
