Same reason as the ones that don't sell weed.

The real answer is because the people in charge of these counties and the votive populace is full of old Bible Belt farts. As the die out and more gen x and millenials gain control, they go wet. Slowly happening all over north and east Texas over the past few years. Oklahoma voted as a state for alcohol in grocery stores. Passed last presidential election and goes into effect in October.

Depends on the location/population. In most places it’s for religious reasons. Here in Kentucky we have some dry counties because MADD was formed after the Carrollton County Bus Crash and they’ve pushed really hard for those counties to remain dry.

Not a single "dry" parish in Louisiana. Some only permit the sale of low content but still

I think West Carroll is now technically "wet", but no liquor licenses have yet to be issued. East Carroll and Madison would be improved if they were made dry. ??

Basically it is a case of those who heeded the Baptist mantra that alcohol is bad. Under the guise of "treat your body as a temple of the Lord."
Plus, these will see others as "inferior" who drink and they had rather just not have them around.
Further, drinking leads to drugs which leads to more heathenism. Therefore, the Baptists feel they are doing society a favor by not allowing others to obtain alcohol.
Meanwhile, they'll think it is OK for themselves to take a sip from time to time, since they are doing everything in the Lord's name.

Columbia Co. Arkansas went wet for first time in over 70 years recently. Completely changed the culture. Growing up, Friday nights were planned around who was riding with who to Haynesville, LA to pick up the weekend fun. Some of my best times were riding backroads hitting signs with beer bottles (trashy?).

When I go back home I kind of miss the heading to state line and riding backroads. I laugh looking back. Pull up to the brew through, order a bunch of beer, mix drinks, and shot; they’d bring it all out and say, be carful!!

Yet, the places for the most part that were/are dry are full of a bunch of ignorant, unemployed, meth heads who trash themselves and everything around them.

The old Baptists ...

Our county finally went wet a few years ago,
And they were threatening businesses to not go to their restaurants if they sold alcohol and how that would lead to hedonistic behavior and ruin the town and all this shite

Our finest dining establishment is an applebees if that gives any indication of how crappy it is in the first place .

Edit: it’s my hometown and I moved away and I hate even going back there .
