Just because some guys can’t kick doesn’t mean they all can’t. My son could kick better than her, now, when he was 11. He’s 14 now and she could never kick a soccer or football as well as he does...and he’ll get much better.

So your 14 year old son can kick better than she can?

This has nothing to do with her playing football other than the motion is similar. I guarantee you they could have found 25+ athletes on campus that could kick better than her. I'm not holding it against her, she gets offered the opportunity she can't turn it down but know your role.

This hurts the female in the future that ACTUALLY earns a spot as a kicker for the first time (if that day ever comes.)

Better than to the 35-yard line? Yeah, I'd be willing to bet he could.

It’s definitely possible, there’s plenty of 14 year old goalies that are better than her

An FBS-level kick returner would make her look like she has Down syndrome should she ever have to make a TD-saving tackle.
Granted, it could happen, and even happen in a very important moment, but how often does it come down to the kicker? Hardly ever. And considering it's Vandy and what they are playing for nothing (LSU too by the way), does it really matter?

That is the dumbest take possible.

And when it does? Oh, well frick it. We just gave up 7 points, but we did score virtue points!

Honestly, I think Trevor Lawrence is prettier than her.

How many times did Vandy punt?
Could the punter not have done what she did? What about the long snapper that was available?

There were other options

You want to know my "not full of shite" theory? Derek Mason knew he was going to be fired after this game (that part isn't a theory. Evidently he knew that was his last game) so for whatever reason, since he didn't have a kicker, instead of letting a some of the players try out, he decided to give her a chance.

From all accounts, he is a really good dude. Maybe he did it just to bring some attention to a really good year by the female soccer team. Either way, does it really matter? Vandy hadn't won a game all year, their HC was getting fired after the game, this hasn't been a normal season anyway. So why not?

I believe the better question is why? There is no logical reason to do this.

Look, I actually agree with what you said. And I also think that it was sort of a "well, whatever" decision by Derek Mason.

I don't really have a problem with what Vandy did per se. What I have a problem with are all the dumbasses across the country screaming about women "breaking the glass ceiling" in football. It's an absolute farce and travesty. And, as many have already pointed out, its a disservice to actual female athletic accomplishments.

This is not an historic breakthrough moment for women in football. Any insinuation that it is is just a big lie.

Well, duh.

Radical feminism and its cousin critical race theory are rejections of truth and reason.

She was a starter on a SEC title winning women's soccer team.

She is actually transferring to North Texas and will be playing for them next year while she works towards her masters, but that's besides the point. Maybe if his 14 year old son is above average I guess it can be possible, but not likely. Its not like she is a small woman either.

As for as the game Saturday, that was an onside kick. You can't judge how well she kicks based on that.

It clearly wasn't it....and if it was that makes it an even worse attempt

Here is video of the kick if you want to see it in all its glory:

Twitter

My comments:

1. Not a perfect kick or an onside kick or other masterful kick, as the Walsh article posted earlier points out.

2. Her Co-SEC Special Teams Player of the Week award can sit on the shelf next to Obama's Nobel Peace Prize in the Least Deserved Award Hall of Fame

3. I think Oweo can kick further

4. She runs like a goalie

It sucks, but that's the world we live in. Its all about a story. Reality doesn't matter. I am not one to use this term often, but in this case I think it applies "it is what it is".
