Most of that area south is about 25% wet, according to a guy from Arabie Environmental. I did see some dirt work going on in that field due north of the airport. Looks like road access going in off Lake St

I agree with all of that. It makes zero sense to me as well. I don't see the draw of Carlyss, Hackberry, etc

Should have been on south side in between Nelson and common area. Maybe by airport on south side.

The other thing I forgot to mention is that there is also a railroad running right through the center of the development too.

we still have good public schools in calcasieu parish
Compared to Ben Franklin and Lusher? The notion that LA has good public schools is a joke.
ETA: What I meant to say is we have good public schools, but they are all Magnet or Charters. Not in the traditional sense of a public school.

The thing about Calcasieu parish, is that while there are no top notch public schools like a Ben Franklin, there are public schools like Barbe, Sulphur, and Sam Houston (Moss Bluff) where you can take chemistry/physics/Latin/calculus, etc. and take AP courses or Spark (gifted/talented) courses and make good grades, get good test scores, etc.
The schools do a good job at offering shop classes at Sowela for the less academically inclined to learn welding, auto mechanic type skills.
It's really one of the things that the parish does right.

I can't disagree. I've been twice for soccer tournaments for my son. The roads are great and I like the overall layout of the area. I like the area. One of the few places in the state that has their shite together.

You are just messing around, right?
You know the answer.
What's next? It's built on a Superfund site?

No

Not sure if that railroad is active (pretty sure it is) but there is one right in the middle of where Blake Hines is currently laying the water and sewer lines.

it's a street across sallier from that lawton development. like 8-ish new houses built in the older style
it's by the PAR group, who are building little 3-10 house developments all over
I love that area, but the schools are shite. I'd rather just live in Moss Bluff where I can actually send my kids to public school.

Speaking of Moss Bluff, I saw today they have started clearing land for a 600 lot subdivision off of Camp Fire Rd. Not sure how much bigger they can get without incorporating. Really the only thing holding them back is a complete lack of shopping and restaurants. That whole stretch of 378 seems like nothing but churches, schools, and fast food.

bro the bluff has a southern spice!
but really, the bluff is like 10-15 minutes from downtown LC, so the area is more focused on residential stuff
they're much more focused on using their available area to increase residential development and rely upon LC for commercial/entertainment

Moss bluff has plenty of retail being planned.......
I am excited about the growth that's about to happen in Calcesieu and even though the CPPJ has excellent funding , they are going to be behind on infrastructure.....no fault of theirs.
Now, the City? Their heads are so far up their asses, they won't see the train coming.

I hear that Moss Bluff is building a new elementary school by the middle school, and is getting a Wal Mart grocery store and a Krogers. If that's true, it seems like there might be some restaurants and stuff to follow.

The way they have handled the downtown development is laughable at best.

Hey, at least they got Ryan streetscaped.......I know the brain trust that initiated that whole shite storm. The fact that they paid Duany-Platter Zyberk $1.5million is laughable considering it was a horrid square peg/round hole scenario. Lake Charles just isn't the canvass for a plan like that and most educated folks could have saved them the money.

You mean the citizens money. How long ago did Roach get that tax hike passed to pay for the downtown development? It's been a while and nothing has happened.

I think 2007-2008......btw, ain't nothing going to happen either. Least not until he's long gone.
Lori had the keys to that bus and had zero business / knowledge to do so.......then insert the Moore Planning Group and shitstorm! Well, more like a popcorn fart.

It's not just him. That whole city council needs an overhaul. They shoot themselves in the foot so much I don't understand how anything gets done.
Westlake has a great city council right now on the other hand and are doing some good there. That golf course development was pretty smooth from start to finish for a city project.
