All you need is red tape to not get pulled over.

I'm not seeing an issue with this at all. I need a new brake light for my car, I'll take a free one. Really, how is this any different from other non-profits doing stuff for free, like churches?

I pay property taxes that directly fund public schools but I don't have any kids so I do not benefit from this service but that's how it works.

you benefit from public schools we all do, a more educated society is better for everyone. On the necessities to luxuries spectrum education is trending towards the necessity end spectrum. where as a smart phone is way on the luxury end of the spectrum.

That's great and all but when you're drunk driving on the sidewalk, it really doesn't matter if you have a tail light out

nice original sarcastic response, care to elaborate?

Cell phones are not a necessity, cell phones are a luxury. as someone who pays their fair share of taxes, why would it be wrong for me think that I should also be entitled to receive the same benefit regardless of my financial situation.

Having a smart phone service isn't exactly a luxury. If you want these people to get jobs, be able to communicate with their employer, etc... This may be their only reliable access to email as well. With so many things being electronic having email access is vital. Yes, poor people and the homeless have email.

The free phone is some rather limited Android based phone typically.

I'am guessing it wouldn't be smart to tax a bmw/benz/lexus up there right?

Let cultura or culcha drive it for you, they'd do that thing in a heartbeat.

As a federalist, I don't mind this, I DO mind that Federal funds are being used. But I don't have too much trouble with "socialism" on the local level. If people of a local jurisdiction want to help each other, I'm good with it. That's the way it should be.

Solutions SHOULD begin at the Church parish/precinct/ward level if at all possible. It allows people to give charitably, and it allows people to move or switch locations more easily should the solutions on offer not be to their liking or political philosophy.

I get what you are saying, people need to be able to communicate but what makes the cellphone a luxury is the mobility it provides. a landline provides that at a fraction of the cost of a cell phone. having a landline also makes you be more accountable, you have to be where you say you are going to be and be there at the time you say you will be there. Employers love employees that show up on time, or at all. If you are using a phone to get a job, you need to be where you say you are going to be when you are going to be there. Call me naive, but I was at working age before cell phone use was wide spread. I called the office where I was looking for a job and then set up a meeting and was there when we said to be there. Also, just about every city in america has some form of a job placement service provided by the government. No phone is required, you go to the office they set you up with a job and you show up at that job at the determined time. It's not that complicated. further more, most cities in 2017 have a public library that has free access to computers, internet, printers for "free", tax payers are paying for it obviously.

so where are they getting the money to buy the brake lights?

I kind of want to go just to talk to them. Not start a fight or a debate... I'm just honest curious about how they think socialism is supposed to work.

Some form of socialism is where the world will end up. You might not like it, but that is where we are heading with technology.

I'd be real surprised to meet an illegal that doesn't know how to change a brake light. Seems like the Mexican community has found quite the little cottage industry in salvage vehicles. Every day on I10 I pass at least one wrecked vehicle in tow with a Mexican pulling it that no doubt will be either stripped down for parts or fixed with other stripped down parts. I don't know if they ship them back home, sell the parts, or just say frick it and drive them (likely all the above) but those people have to know their way around cars.

Hoodrats on the other hand...
