Seems we already have assisted suicide via hospice care, no?
And that’s not a knock on them. But don’t they just keep giving you more and more morphine (or whatever pain reliever prescribed) till you pass?

Hospice provides medication to terminally ill patients who request it to ease pain and suffering while life naturally leaves them body. They do not over dose the patient to interfere and expedite death.

They also do not allow non terminally ill patients to receive this care. So the 25 year old girl in Canada suffering depression and mental health issues would not be accepted, neither would the lady who’s son does in a accident am she is not petitioning the courts to allow drs to end her life.

Euthenasia has a place in the world.

People euthenize their pets at end of life because it is HUMANe. Seems we should treat humans humanely as well.

Terminal cancer, ALS.. There are many conditions that having mercy would save the person dignity and much pain.

Watching people lay in nursing home beds for years seems wrong.

Unfortunately, there is revenue to be made in that misery.

Indians (dot) are taking over that industry too. That and cheap, trashy hotels.

Combined the euthanasia and suicide rate in Canada is almost 20% lower than the suicide rate in the United States. Life expectancy in Canada is just 5% higher than it is in the US. Healthcare costs for Canadians are almost exactly half what they are in the US. The question isn't who is better off from a health care and life expectancy POV, Canada is clearly better. It ain't a question of Universal coverage compared to US health insurance. Again, Canada is clearly better. The question is, and no one will ask it, why does Canada only spend 2% of their GDP on defense while we spend a little over 4% in the US? The answer is Canada, like the rest of the world, can afford to provide better healthcare at lower costs because the United States provides almost the entirety of what security there is in the world. We can afford to do both, we simply refuse to do so, for a myriad of reasons, but we have the money.

Then you are also OK with paying 50% taxes your entire life.

A hellish story. I’m sorry your father and family have had to go through this.
