If there was an opposite of Brush With Greatness (maybe Distinction of Dubiousness?) then mine would be that in my younger days I had a paper route in Leesville/Ft Polk.

Leesville-
Quite honestly is a very awful place. The best thing it has going for it is its proximity to Toledo bend for fishing. If you aren’t into fishing it totally blows.
It’s like it doesn’t know if it wants to be Louisiana Texas or Arkansas. Total identity crisis

It’s why we were known as No Man’s Land before statehood.

For a town of its size it has produced some decent football players… Diesel, Michael Ford, Kevin Mawae, Keith Zinger, Kavika Pittman, Eddie Fuller (earthquake game), etc.

Side note. The Leesville mayor is the president of the La. Mayors Association.
Tempting, but I’d still rather see a photo of the chick. Probably in this case too.

I don't know about all that.
I find it odd that if you go North, it's rednecks, if you go South it's coonasses.
Leesville is just Leesville. I think it is Ft. Polk and it's influx of people from all over the world that makes it a melting pot with no specific identity. The have rodeos, Mardi Gras parades and good Korean food. A town of all cultures with a mastery of none.

Anyway, the city was sued for 299,000.00 and paid it
But I was told by NOLA faithful residents that you have to get in line to pay and you’ll never see dat money.

That sounds kind of low actually.
Exactly what I thought as well. I guess that is why the town went ahead and paid it.

Bun didn't play organized basketball until the 9th grade or something like that. Growth spurt of something, like 5" in one year.

Details from the article:
quote:
The court filing shows that Allen and the city had been sued by a city employee named Amanda Stoots, who said she had a one-year affair with Allen and was laid off after the relationship ended. Stoots also said a senior city employee sexually harassed her, touching her breasts and rear end and repeatedly propositioning her, both before, during and after the alleged relationship with Allen. In the lawsuit, Stoots said the mayor didn’t stop the sexual harassment. That night, reading it, “I felt sick to my stomach,” Ybarra said. The lawsuit said that Stoots, who agreed in the settlement not to discuss the case, began working for the city in April 2018 as a grasscutter at Fort Polk. The following month, the lawsuit said, Stoots’ supervisor, James Chris Fox, began making lewd comments to her, in person and through Snapchat, and repeatedly asked her to have sex with him. She responded that his comments were “gross,” the lawsuit said, and she demanded that he stop harassing her. Stoots informed Allen about what Fox was doing. “Ms. Stoots felt comfortable reporting this sexual harassment to Mayor Allen because Mayor Allen expressed a romantic and sexual interest in Ms. Stoots, and the two began a consensual intimate relationship in September 2018,” the lawsuit said. “This relationship continued over the next year.”
quote:
Stoots, who had been promoted to project manager, was demoted twice after the affair ended, the lawsuit said. In December 2019, Fox laid off Stoots “as part of a ‘reduction in force due to budget constraints,’” according to the lawsuit. Stoots filed suit in March 2020 along with Robyn Bassett, who accused Allen, other city officials and the city itself of discriminating against her because she is gay and because she complained of discrimination against other city employees. The settlement was signed in October 2020, according to a copy obtained by The Advocate through a public records request. It shows that Stoots received $186,875. Of that, $124,582.33 went to her, and her two New Orleans attorneys, Casey Denson and Kerry Murphy, each collected $31,145.83. Bassett received $112,125. Of that, $74,750 went to her, and Denson and Murphy each collected an additional $18,687.50. Denson said neither Stoots nor Bassett could discuss the settlement. Of the $299,000 paid to the two women, the city of Leesville paid $175,000 to Stoots and Bassett, with the additional $124,000 coming from the Louisiana Municipal Risk Management Agency, an insurance entity that is part of the Louisiana Municipal Association. (Leesville’s budget was $8.1 million that year, according to a report filed with the Louisiana Legislative Auditor.)
