Watched this the other night. Good movie. Really puts a lot of this into perspective.

We are in the housing industry (private company) and it simple isn’t turning around fast enough. 50% volume increases in the future with contracts but losses from hanging on until things turn make this layoff a current necessity for now.

It is, but watch, a democrat, him or otherwise, will get reelected in November.

People getting laid off left and right. Cost of food and housing is skyrocketing. The border is wide open. The American dream is dying right before our eyes folks.

People’s poor choices, selfishness, and overall lack of contingency planning is destroying America. Nobody to blame but yourself.

Yeah, every company laying-off employees is because of a simple management issue. Not policies. Not at all

Speak for yourself. Some people were raised to know that small houses and older cars create a great opportunity for disposable income and investment capital. Also real estate equity is a thing if you buy low and sell high.

I can still buy a small car.
It has become very difficult to buy a small house.

I agree. And it is super frustrating because it has to be an old house in an old neighborhood. No builders build small houses anymore.
And employers don't cut executive bonuses to prevent layoffs either

Small houses are apartments now.

They build townhomes instead. So you have to overpay to share walls.
Townhomes or you have to rent an apartment if you want to live small.

When an entire market is down 30% and costs are 20-30% higher than the past, there is only so longer reserves can cover loses before needing to make drastic changes.
We held onto people at a loss but the timing of future projects kept getting pushed off.

Well thanks for the jinx. Got the TEAMS message at 9:43am "Hey, do you have a second...". Jumped on the call, HR present, you know the drill. Will be let go August 30th with additional month of salary.
Probably 20-30 people getting the same call.
31 years in IT, kind of sick of it. House paid for, daughter's undergrad set aside (she'll be junior, two more years), wife making low 6 figures.
How to transition to an "old man" job for the next 5 years?

I want my old man job to be as a docent at a museum or old battlefield.
