So a defense attorney who has to go through 2 or 3 retrials only charges the defendant to represent him for one trial??
well many criminal defense attorneys do flat fees
but
they'd charge more fees for sure, just not billable perhaps

No. But you brought up billable hours.

Neither criminal defense attorneys or prosecutors bill by the hour.
and 9/10 criminal defendants in LA are represented by the public defender

PDOs) and the cost doesn't increase. they're drawing salaries regardless
Just stop. Your argument is ridiculous.

No. But you brought up billable hours.
You must be a lawyer to try and stretch logic like that.

well they're going to be there regardless

i was just saying that in the vast (and i mean VAST) majority of cases, there won't be more fees
the DA is a salaried employee who is there if he had 1 or 100 cases that day
the PDO in LA handles some insane % of cases, like 75% plus. i think here it's 90%+

I say 12-0 to convict, without question...but what's required for acquittal? At worst 9-3 if not less, I would hope.
Counselor?
Counselor?

and a 11-1 doesn't mean acquittal. it just means a hung jury and the Defendant still faces prosecution
TBH, while you're obviously going to have a few more hung juries, I think the real result of changing this would just mean longer jury selection and longer deliberations

and more plea deals, ie, saving costs long term

You lawyers have the most obvious conflict of interest in the world yet you keep pretending it doesn't exist.
It's the reason why 99% of lawyers give the other 1% a bad reputation....

I just can't imagine my fate in the hands of avg. Americans...given the avg IQ...which in this example is reduced to the bottom 1/3: those too dumb to get excused.
I would be praying for the professional who took time off in the interest of justice.
Hell yes it better be unanimous.

i agree with you here
i was just explaining their point with the comments you quoted above. it's a semantic argument. i was just trying to clarify

hey man i agree. the greed and manipulation of attorneys is how i found my niche. it's +EV to know how to play off this

let me also be clear, the last jury trial i did (which was almost a year ago) resulted in me not being paid my reduced fee agreed to after the trial

What vote is required for acquittal vs hung jury?
Posted on 4/5/18 at 11:08 am to SlowFlowPro
Why is that funny? There is frequent news articles about how underfunded various public defender offices are. What does that mean? It means there will be increased demand for additional money for public defenders.

I love that you still use that gif and no one else stole it from you.
