Yup. Never, ever wire money...in any amount...just by email correspondence alone. Always get an out-of-band confirmation (phone call, snail mail, etc.).

Watch out for voice verification as well. I have been told of several successful scams where the fraudsters get very creative. After spoofing/hacking email and sending wire requests for a targets securities account they hack the sender's mobile accounts and have incoming calls forwarded to a burner phone.
When someone calls to voice verify the wire it goes straight to the hacker who verifies everything.
No bueno.

Well the first step there is never use a cell phone for wiring verification. Office line only.
Then again, I guess not everyone is a paranoid, doesn't-trust-anyone type of person like me. But that's just my line of work.

The blockchain technology makes it to where crypto transactions are decentralized...they dont sit on just one server..several different servers have to approve the transaction

I'm all aboard on crypto but your argument is invalid here. It doesn't prevent phishing. Many people have been duped into providing private keys or other info regarding their wallets just to have their coins stolen.

Best thing about all of this is that this hackers seem to never get busted or in trouble for it. Ha. Fun times...
