Has anyone with Suddenlink plugged your modem into your generator to see if the internet is working?
Trying to decide if I come home or stay another week. Wife and I prefer to stay as the cost will be about the same but I need to get home to help some people too.

Go to your online account and view the current connection status. It will tell your whether there’s a problem with the line

Mine states there is an outage, so it’s a “no go”

There is no exposure nationally to how bad this is.
All local tv stations are out.
It’s pretty disheartening.
We have no electricity
We have no water
Our pets heads are falling off!
I’m think the lineman should be coming to work in superhero costumes!
Random thoughts...

It’s cause we’re overall white. Promise you.
And what I don’t understand is if Entergy has 9,000+ lineman in the area, they should be able to get this crap working quickly.

Lineman are getting after it.
There’s just so much damage.

Again, the question is this. What are they doing to prevent this in the future?
I feel like Louisiana is the only place that gets their crap knocked down and puts it right back up like it was...waiting to be knocked down again.

They are rebuilding an entire infrastructure that serves hundreds of thousands of people and fixing a lot of damage to their main plant in the area. I think people underestimate the undertaking and logistics of how big of an operation that is.

Entergy plant in west lake puts out 25% of power supplied to LC, and looks like metal spaghetti from what I’ve heard
The power grid which comes from Baton Rouge and runs through moss Bluff has a bunch of the structures just mangled, these supply the rest of the power.
This doesn’t even address the small peripheral lines which are down.
It’s insane.

Jesus dude. You’re taking about a complete rebuild of basically all transmission and distribution lines in the area. And it’s only been a week.

Never fricking mind.

I had to make a run to Westlake today and was a little surprised at how much damage it has. Maybe they aren't as far along in their cleanup but I thought it looked worse than LC.

Are the same lineman who replace poles/wire the same guys who replace the big plants/substations and whatever theyre called??

Never fricking mind. A near category 5 hurricane passed over this area. My cousin sent pictures of trees next to his house in Moss Bluff that have no bark on them. Think about how hard the wind is blowing to remove all the bark from trees
I did some work at my mom"s place today and a 3 foot diameter and about 20 foot long limb was snapped off an oak tree on her place. The thing dug a rut across her acre of property where the wind was dragging it. It's hard to comprehend these things when you see them.

Honestly, Westlake looks a thousand x’s better than it did last Thursday.
On a WTF note: we were trying to bring tarps and gas cans to a family member there last Saturday. We kept having to circle around to find streets that would actually connect and get us to their house.
I made two videos: first was a dude in a 35’ (old) RV trying to get through the neighborhood. He finally reached as far as he was going, stopped and realized he was now stuck. What made the video, though, was him getting out of the RV, shirtless, wearing cutoff jeans and sporting a pretty awesome baldy-mullet. He got out out, walked around the back of the bus, put his hands on his hips, stretched and then looked at us and shrugged his shoulders. Our commentary was pretty good too.
Second was some toothless, meth-head chic riding a bike down the road around all the down trees and power lines. She told us, “it’s cool, they ain’t hot, iffin they wuz, I’d be dead”. Then she rode off into the setting sun.

No. Typically lineman cover just distribution or transmission. Substations have a separate group as well and for companies the size of Entergy they typically so not overlap.

So can poles at least start being replaced while they rebuild substations? And then wire run??
I have no clue how this works.

Poles are going up.
A friend that works at one of the plants that sells power to Entergy is attempting to bring up a unit Tuesday, so any substations ready for power may receive it.

Assuming the transmission lines servicing that substation aren't damaged.

A local oil and gas contractor has leased his maintenance yard to Pike Engineering out of North Carolina for a base camp. I drove by there today around sunset and there were at least 150 bucket trucks. Amazing sight.
