Things looking better than anticipated (I know it's still early)?

I saw something in the middle of the night about recorded sustained winds of 100+ in LC - true?

I can't imagine so considering how these things usually go, but who knows.

Think this is the first time ever Little Rock is under a tropical storm warning. Crazy.

One bit of good news so far is that the water level gauge in the SE side of the lake near downtown LC is reading 6.06 feet which is 3.4 feet below the record set by Ike. The rise appears to be cresting also.

The worst of hurricanes is typically from storm surge. So comparatively looking at wind damage isn't as bad as seeing just piles of debris and slabs.

For anyone wanting to see some damage reports, #lakecharles on Instagram has a good bit. Roof of the hotel portion of the nugget got shredded, the former Capital One Tower also took some damage. Didn’t see much else besides just debris being flung around. Didn’t look like downtown flooded, so that’s good. Think worst of the damage here will be the more rural areas and south of LC. Not sure that’s different than what was expected though.

The highest gust so far in Natchitoches at the airport is 52. Sustained only 36.

That one location may not capture the highest winds but other than a localized tornado, winds are not much stronger than that anywhere in that area.

Local and national news was still preaching 15 ft surge in my area at landfall.. My wife thought we were gonna die because they kept acting so dramatic over it at midnight

My aunt's house is pretty much toast. The metal roof peeled off like a sardine can and the bricks blew off the sides. Built before the new codes but after Rita. Sad but hiring the cheapest guy isn't always the best option. Metal roofs are critical to do correctly.

No word on our house yet
