Wouldn’t be surprised if the Ukrainians blew it. They may think they won’t be able to retake the airport for like the 9th time so they decided to blow the fuel

Interesting thread on possible Russian response to sanctions
Feels like we have talked about this much after no initial response of major weight. Putin respond after the eventual fall of Kyiv/Ukraine? Seems highly unlikely there’s no response greater than what we’ve seen so far.

As I noted somewhere back in the thread, who is going to be any better? A kleptocratic nation will have a kleptocratic army with kleptocratic leaders. The US has a bad habit of picking bureaucrats and careerists over war fighters but Russia has raised it to an art form. There aren't any young hotshots on the bench just waiting for the chance to step up.
There could be some hotshots out there, but they're probably going to look at the guys that got fired and decide that they'll chew through a couple battalions to take a city before they end up like those guys.

Had a call this afternoon where the execs went over the impact to crops, fertilizer and natural gas. If this is drawn out for an extended period, Eurasia is in for a rough go of it. NH3 equivalents have rose to 1700/ton over there. Stock up on sunflower and canola oil if you use it.

Wow, that’s powerful. Thank God that we have oceans to protect us from that Hell on Earth.

Putin’s war on freedom of expression in Russia appeared to be fraying at the edges on Thursday after guests on Kremlin-backed TV defied Moscow and openly criticised the brutal conflict in Ukraine, calling the invasion ‘even worse than Afghanistan’.
Guests have refused to support the narrative pushed through by television hosts on Putin’s request that Russia has been conducting a ‘special operation’ to ‘demilitarise’ and ‘de-Nazify’ Ukraine – claims dismissed as baseless pretexts by Kyiv and her partners in the West.
One who appeared on one of Russia 1’s prime time talk show rebelled by referring to the USSR’s disastrous invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 which ended in withdrawal ten years later.

It’s impressive the crop production of those 2 and Belarus combined.
Did find it funny one mentioned the EUs transition to renewables was going to soften the blow.

The likelihood is increasing that Ukrainian forces could fight to a standstill the Russian ground forces attempting to encircle and take Kyiv. Russian forces also appear to be largely stalemated around Kharkiv and distracted from efforts to seize that city. Russian advances in the south around Mykolayiv and toward Zaporizhya and in the east around Donetsk and Luhansk made little progress as well in the last 24 hours. Russia likely retains much greater combat power in the south and east and will probably renew more effective offensive operations in the coming days, but the effective reach and speed of such operations is questionable given the general performance of the Russian military to date. There are as yet no indications that the Russian military is reorganizing, reforming, learning lessons, or taking other measures that would lead to a sudden change in the pace or success of its operations, although the numerical disparities between Russia and Ukraine leave open the possibility that Moscow will be able to restore rapid mobility or effective urban warfare to the battlefield.

March 10 (Reuters) - The World Health Organization advised Ukraine to destroy high-threat pathogens housed in the country's public health laboratories to prevent "any potential spills" that would spread disease among the population, the agency told Reuters on Thursday.
Biosecurity experts say Russia's movement of troops into Ukraine and bombardment of its cities have raised the risk of an escape of disease-causing pathogens, should any of those facilities be damaged.

The first is a cyber attack. On water systems. Electricity grids. Banking systems. Something that will cause chaos. Probably not across America, but in a handful of cities. Are you prepared for that? Do you have food, water, & supplies to last X days until systems are restored?

And if civil unrest / riots happen during that time, is your city or state ready? Ask yourself: What did your political leadership do during the BLM riots? Did they actually encourage, support, or justify BLM rioters? Probably gives you a good indicator of their spine.

Moreover, they (US politicians) know they won't pay a professional price for their bad decisions. Case in point: The same people in DC who lost our war in Afghanistan are now in charge of this war against Russia. Think about that. They lost a war to goat herders. They're still in charge.

Russian military convoy northwest of Kyiv has dispersed, redeployed -Maxar
They're planning a seige.. cut off the power and water, consolidate positions in the east, shell daily, wait them out. If they follow same tactics as Chechnya and that seems to be what they're doing in Mariupol, destroy most of the infrastructure from shelling, get the civilians to flee, in a few months go door to door. Awful.

A US official told the outlet Thursday that while Russia's troops are in a position to completely circle Kyiv in the coming week or two, the fight to take total control of the capital will likely take much longer.
The same official said US intelligence believes the battle to take Kyiv could take another four-to-six weeks, though the official acknowledged that the US' assessment is fluid and frequently changing.
