Isn't that the main point of all this.

Not sure if it is, but it's definitely a perk

I have no problem at all with the support we’re giving to Ukraine.
That is fine.

Let me guess, because I am not 100% in support of Ukraine, question the aspects of their military, and haven’t put the Ukrainian flag as my profile picture on social media, I must be pro-Putin.

I don’t like either side, I don’t like our country being involved in the situation, and I don’t like the repeated mistakes we make in foreign policy.

I follow merely out of curiosity and interest in global affairs.

Considering that isn’t why he is there, despite the rhetoric…no.

Which to me makes the whole thing a little irrelevant.

It's a talking point that bears little importance in what's going on.

Or until it's no longer politically/financially expedient to support said friend.

You forgot Saddam Hussein and the Taliban too

Yeah, kinda like a wilderness mall cop with serious survival skills. The kind of people you would want around you AFTER WWIII but there are much better options during WWIII.

As a non-sequitur, I read an article when they replaced their Enfield #4s with the T3x Arctic and the author described the Tikka's action as tongue on labia smooth. That guy posts on tOT.

How could I forget them.

Hell, we likely supported Qaddafi at one point too.

Yeah, blokeontherange on YouTube got one and reviewed it and said the action was like glass. Those Enfields were notoriously smooth as well.

Kudos to the guy because I still remember it. I have read and heard dozens of variations of the "thin rod of glass" break analogy and it has become clear lots of authors and people don't actually know what it infers as it has been bastardized over the years. Whether accurate or not I don't know but I have a forever burned-in mental "feel" for that Tikka action which I have never used IRL.

I get the task is monumental given the position they put themselves in and we don’t exactly seem willing to help by maximizing our own energy to increase global supply, but that gives Russia 5 years of cash flow. Lot happens in 5 years. Also, I thought Russia was cutting everyone off in response anyway?

Gas is a much larger issue for the EU than oil. They can theoretically buy oil from anyone, it’s just a matter of how it affects global prices. Gas supply, though, is physically limited by pipeline and LNG infrastructure. My guess is that the 5 year plan involves some amount of investment in new LNG import facilities and new pipelines from the coastal areas.

Of course, it’s just as likely that the 5 year plan involves some pipe dream of offsetting their Russian gas imports with alternative energy sources..

WASHINGTON, March 10 (Reuters) - Satellite images taken on Thursday show a large Russian military convoy, last seen northwest of Kyiv near Antonov airport, has largely dispersed and redeployed, a private U.S. company said on Thursday.

Maxar Technologies said images show armored units maneuvering in and through the surrounding towns close to the airport. It said images also show convoy elements further north have repositioned near Lubyanka with towed artillery howitzers in firing positions nearby.

Wonder if they are expecting a large scale counteroffensive by the Ukrainians?
