Americans on this site were watching the baseball game on this Friday of America’s Memorial Day weekend, Sergei. Aggie went down, kissed the icon you might say. TTYL.
America good. Russia bad.

ISW Update May 23 2025
quote:
Key Takeaways:
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov demanded that any future peace agreement in Ukraine include conditions to prevent the election and establishment of future pro-Western governments in Ukraine.
Ukraine and Russia conducted a 390-for-390 prisoner-of-war (POW) and civilian exchange on May 23 as part of a larger 1,000-for-1,000 exchange agreed upon during recent bilateral negotiations in Istanbul.
Russian forces reportedly recently executed more Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) on the battlefield.
Russian President Vladimir Putin approved an experimental application to monitor migrants, likely in an effort to placate Russian ultranationalist demands while continuing to leverage migrants to support force generation and mitigate labor shortages.
Ukrainian forces advanced near Toretsk, and Russian forces advanced near Novopavlivka and Kurakhove.

Andriy Portnov, a former top official in ex-President Viktor Yanukovych's administration, visited Ukraine just days before he was shot dead in Madrid on May 21, the news outlet Ukrainska Pravda reported on May 23, citing unnamed sources.
According to three interlocutors with knowledge of Portnov's movements — including sources in law enforcement and his inner circle — he was in Ukraine on May 17-18 and reportedly met with top law enforcement officials.
Portnov, a lawyer and longtime political operative, was shot at least five times outside the American School in Madrid. Two or three individuals are believed to have taken part in the killing.

It is reported that the „NAK Azot“ chemical plant in Novomoskovsk, Tula region, in Russia was struck. The plant produces fertilizers and ammonia and is the second-largest plant of that kind.

May 21 - Ukrainian drones struck the Oryol region, Russia, last night. The target was the Bolkhov Semiconductor Device Plant. It develops and produces electronics equipment and semiconductors for the Russian military.

May 22 - Ukrainian drone activity over Russian airspace has severely compromised and disrupted civilian air travel in Russia.
According Flightradar24, the Russian regions of Bryansk, Kaluga, Tula, Oryol, Kursk, Lipetsk, Voronezh, Belgorod, Rostov, Krasnodar and the Republic Adygeja have completely suspended civilian air travel. Partially, the airspace over the regions of Smolensk, Stavropol, Volgograd and even Tambov have been emptied.
The bulk of planes going or leaving Moscow into the South have to make a wide berth from Ukraine, converging over the Astrakhan area and the Caspian Sea. If Ukrainian drones would start entering this area, then it would further complicate this situation.
The affected area is around 540,000 square kilometers (220,000 square miles) in size.

May 23 - Ukrainian UAVs are striking deeper and more frequently into Russian airspace. Last night the battery plant in Yelets, Lipetsk region, was struck.
Russian channels report that due to drone threats the airports all the way to Ivanovo, Nizhny Novgorod, Yaroslav and even Kostroma had to be closed. Overall, air travel in at least 15 Russian regions, including Moscow, was disrupted by increased drone activity.
