Eventually linking the Kyiv Independent will be seen in a similar light to linking your crazy uncle's Facebook posts as evidence. It's taken a huge hit on the credibility front already

President Trump's special envoy for the war, Gen. Keith Kellogg, just gave an exclusive interview to the NY Post.

Last Thursday, Trump gathered his “whole confirmed team” of advisers and cabinet members focused on national security — from Vice President JD Vance to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent — in the Oval Office, where Kellogg said they discussed how to use all elements of national power to end the war.
“Solving the Russia-Ukraine war is really all hands on deck for the entire administration, so a whole-of-government approach,” the general said. “We got the national security team talking about it — the president, vice president, national security adviser, secretaries of State [and] Treasury, National Security Council, working all together.”
Though Kellogg said Ukraine will need to keep up its military pressure on Russia ahead of negotiations, he lambasted former President Biden’s strategy of promising to provide Ukraine aid “as long as it takes, as much as it takes” without cranking up the pressure on other elements of national power.
“That is not a strategy, it’s a bumper sticker,” he said. “At a very high level, I said, OK, [the Biden administration was] really not prosecuting the war or helping out Ukraine as well as they should have … getting Ukraine the necessary arms or strategy that at the right time.

You NAFO trolls told me Russia lost their bases in Syria. You guys have to stop getting your information from USAID Fake News sites
RUSSIA STAYS IN SYRIA
Syrian Defense Minister Murakh Abu Kasra told The Washington Post that Russia will be allowed to maintain its military bases in Tartus and Khmeimim on the Mediterranean coast “as long as the Kremlin’s demands align with our interests.”
He noted that Russia’s stance toward Syria’s new leadership has “significantly improved” since the fall of Assad. When asked about Russian airstrikes that once targeted him and his associates when they were militants, he responded, “There are no eternal enemies in politics.”

Anyone with half a brain knew they were a joke from the beginning

What he said is COULD, not will. Also, Russia moved everything stored at the naval base in land based equipment already. One of the ships has already broken down.

Here's a good example of why the Putin bros hate the Kyiv Independent. Investigative journalism at its finest. Highly recommend.

If tweet fails to load, click here. Anyone who has done any research into the positions that the people Trump has selected to work on the Ukraine-Russia issue won’t be surprised by this. They also won’t be surprised when Trump gets fed up with Putin’s refusal to negotiate in good faith. I am predicting that SirWinston and the son of a dumb Arkansas whore (aka Jon Barron) are going to be in for a rude awakening come April or May. If Putin hasn’t made a deal expect an increase in aid and Elon Musk and co to figure out how to get it off the shipping docks in the USA and to Ukraine in record time.
Until then we have to suffer through KGB talking points, USAID references even though USAID doesn’t handle military aid, and SirWinston’s autism.

Those are still Kellogg’s positions. Just because Trump will deliver it doesn’t change the fact that the substance is the same. You your mother should have spent less time sucking dick and more time teaching you to think.

I like the Kyiv Independent because unlike many of the US papers they try and help their country. Yes, they push the Ukraine side, but they don’t try to hide it.

As a US citizen this fact makes the information they provide just as useless to me as a bunch of obscure Twitter accounts with Russian flags in their profile names

They certainly can’t be trusted.
As for the US subsidizing them, I believe that’s something only the president and his people should approve.

another NYT paywalled article summary from the KI...
Trump to lay off nearly all USAID staff worldwide, NYT reports
by Abbey Fenbert and The Kyiv Independent news desk February 7, 2025 1:17 AM
U.S. President Donald Trump plans to eliminate the majority of the positions at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the New York Times (NYT) reported on Feb. 6, citing three people with knowledge of the plans.
The cuts will reduce the agency from 10,000 staff worldwide to just 290, sources said.
The announcement comes after the Trump administration issued a directive on Feb. 4 saying that all USAID employees will be placed on administrative leave starting Feb. 7.
The administration informed USAID officials on Feb. 6 that it was canceling around 800 awards and contracts administered via the agency, the NYT sources said. The three people were granted anonymity as they are not authorized to publicly discuss the cuts.
The 290 remaining employees include those specializing in health and humanitarian assistance, the sources said.
Trump's attacks on USAID began from his first day in office. A Jan. 20 executive order imposed a 90-day freeze on all U.S. foreign assistance, including vital humanitarian aid projects in Ukraine.
The agency has since been subsumed by the U.S. State Department, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio taking over as acting administrative director. Lawmakers from the Democratic party protested the move, calling it "illegal."
Rubio assured reporters on Feb. 4 that the U.S. was "not going to eliminate foreign aid." Meanwhile, billionaire Elon Musk, who heads the Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE), has blasted USAID as a "criminal organization" and pushed for its dissolution.
Since the launch of Russia's full-scale invasion, USAID has provided $2.6 billion in humanitarian aid, $5 billion in development assistance, and over $30 billion in direct budget support to Ukraine.
The funding has supported rebuilding schools, financing bomb shelters, and equipping hospitals with advanced medical equipment.
