Ukraine has other antiaircraft defense systems too. Including S300s, 9K300 Tor, and SA-17 (aka Buk) missile systems which are effective against fast movers. Bulgaria, Greece and Slovakia have S300 systems which they are not using. If NATO could/would replace them with Patriot missiles, and someone (there are plenty of organized crime groups in eastern europe who would gladly take CIA money to move them into Ukraine) were able to sneak those systems into Ukraine then that allows Ukraine to keep knocking Russian planes out of the sky while the Ukrainian Air Force repairs or replaces its lost aircraft.

According to a publication based in Deir Ezzor, Syria, Russia has offered volunteers from the country between $200 and $300 “to go to Ukraine and operate as guards” for six months at a time. ...

Syrian fighters have spent nearly a decade fighting urban warfare, while Russia’s largely conscripted force lacks this skill set. Ms. Cafarella said Syrian forces deployed to Ukraine could also be asked to work a support role, based on how they worked in Syria with the Wagner Group, a mercenary force that some see as a proxy for the Russian government.
