Hey, someone I respect agrees with me: National Review
No, It’s Not World War III. It’s the Leverage Trump Needs

No, It’s Not World War III. It’s the Leverage Trump Needs
By Dan Crenshaw
quote:
This week, Ukrainian forces used American-made ATACM missiles to strike Russian military targets inside Russia for the first time, marking a remarkable policy shift by the Biden administration.
Cue the hyperventilating from the usual suspects about “the warmongers dragging us into World War III!”
But is that really true? Or did Biden finally give the incoming administration exactly what Trump needed: leverage?
quote:
The doomsday narrative doesn’t add up. It never has.
Unlike most of the people complaining about U.S. support for Ukraine in the comments section, I have actually been to war and have the scars to prove it. I’ve learned many lessons. But one stands out: You won’t get peace without leverage, and you can’t create leverage without exerting strength. That’s what “peace through strength” actually means.
quote:
If you’re really for “peace,” then you want what Trump wants: Putin at the negotiation table. This would signal that America’s deterrence has been re-established, which is in our strategic national interest. But you will need the necessary leverage to get Putin there. Otherwise, you’re not calling for peace; you’re calling for Russian victory, Ukrainian surrender and subjugation, and a Russian army on the border of four more NATO countries with the realization that America won’t defend its allies. You want WWIII? That’s how you get WWIII. Just ask Neville Chamberlain.
quote:
Putin started this war, not us. And right now he has no incentive to stop it, largely because of Biden’s tepid “just enough, just in time” support for Ukraine that has facilitated the endless stalemate we see now. To break that stalemate and de-escalate the fight, you must first escalate to gain leverage. Putin responds only to power, nothing else, and thus far our show of power has been minimal.
That has finally changed, and the biggest beneficiary will be President-elect Donald Trump. Instead of inheriting a costly and politically charged stalemate, he will inherit the leverage he needs to start out his presidency with a strong hand to play against Putin.

Given the fact that Ukraine has been hitting the Russian military and key supply chains within Russia for the last couple of years, there is nothing "remarkable" about it. It's funny that Ukraine hitting a North Korean division in Russia is a dangerous escalation while having a NORK division fighting for Putin is not.
Russia is the invader because Putin thought he could get away with it again, not because there was some absurd claim of NATO invading Russia.
Putin stepped into that honey bucket resulting in Sweden and Finland joining NATO.

And I think this was in response to that...
THE HILL: Putin is sending a not-so-friendly message to Trump
That was a dumb move on Putin's part. Making it personal is doubly dumb.
I think Trump will offer Putin a carrot or a stick deal, but the carrot just got a bit smaller and the stick bigger. Time will tell, but Trump is not known for tip-toeing through the tulips.

Many of us have said the same thing, but not as polished.

Oh wow! He lost? I didn't know. Thanks for telling me.

People like you and eyepatch are the exact reason Trump is so popular and won three weeks ago. So thanks!

"I" am the reason Trump won? Thanks, but I'm really not that powerful.

Eye patch won by a larger margin than Trump did

The thing is: both Crenshaw and McCain served their country with honor at considerable personal cost. Mocking his wound is typical of the new woke Right that sees military service as a sucker's game (because serving in the military only helps our evil government).
At some point, actual conservatism will make a comeback.

ISW Update Nov 22
quote:
Key Takeaways:
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian military leadership continue to extol the ballistic missile that Russian forces launched at Ukraine on November 21, likely in an effort to artificially inflate expectations of Russian capabilities and encourage Western and Ukrainian self-deterrence.
Russia may additionally conduct test launches of the same or similar ballistic missiles in the coming days to accomplish the same rhetorical effect.
Russia has reportedly provided North Korea with over one million barrels of oil and an unspecified number and type of air defense systems and missiles in return for North Korea's provision of manpower for Russia's war effort in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office opened an investigation against another instance of Russian forces executing Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) in Donetsk Oblast.
Russian forces recently advanced west of Svatove, south of Chasiv Yar, south of Toretsk, northeast of Vuhledar, and northeast of Velyka Novosilka.
Russia continues to build its training capacity by establishing new service academies in occupied Ukraine.

FTR, ID10Ts losing their shite over a single "could have been a nuke" missile. Hell, all of the missiles fired by Russia into Ukraine could have had nuke warheads.

You’re retarded. There’s more on that served on the right than the left. People like you lying and believing what you just wrote is what’s wrong with our county. You likely never served yourself.

It's amazing there are still people ITT who think we should have ever been involved in this "conflict."
Just so stupid.

I hope so. I miss it... I've never been a Conservative, I'm just not wired that way, but I thought George H. W. Bush was actually a good President who just got screwed because the Soviet Union disintegrated during his term and all of sudden everyone's worldview changed and they were kind of confused about what the hell they should be doing and he got the resentment when Reagan's "Voodoo Economics" (as Bush had tagged them in a debate) bit the country in the arse down the line.
Not a fan of W, though.
