Ukraine has lost another one of its young fighter pilots in 27 year old Captain Oleksandr Myhula. He was downed in combat by either a Su-35 or Su-30 firing a R37 long range air to air missile. Sadly the Mig-29 he was flying had nothing close to the range in missiles or in radar range compared to the more modern Russian jets. He went down fighting though as any fighter pilot would prefer if they had to. RIP and prayers for his family. They should be damn proud.

I should have had an F16 a long time ago. RIP.

It is reported that a lot of Ukrainians are living in the Kursk region. That should make for some complications.

Another 102 POWs. This keeps happening. Russia really just left a bunch of isolated little groups in place and told them to hold towns against elite Ukrainian brigades. There was another group the day before of about 30.

Like I said, Russia knows now that they aren't going to be able to stop Ukraine from taking all this territory to the west of the current salient.

That's what I wrote yesterday. Today, @bayraktar_1love helpfully explains exactly why:

quote:

To visualize the situation in the Glushkovo district of the Kursk region of Russia.

Approximately 700km^2 of land are surrounded from all sides: Ukrainian state border from the south and west; Ukrainian controlled territory of the Kursk region from the east; and the 70-100 meter wide Seym river and swamps from the north.

Only three bridges are connecting this bit of land. One in Glushkovo, second in Zbannoe, third in Karyzh.

If to cut of those bridges Russians will end up in a situation similar to what we saw on the right bank of the Kherson region, when Antonovsky bridge and Kakhovka dam bridge were damaged.

Russian logistics will be possible only by ferries or pontoon bridges (which can be challenging less then a dozen pkg from the frontline). Or through Korenevo, which is yet controlled by Russians but Ukrainian forces are getting closer day by day.

That's why Ukraine is going to take the whole district south of the river.

There was zero reason for anyone in the West to take it out.

Gazprom was facing a multibillion dollar penalty for contract default due it allowed hydrates to form in the feeder pipelines and crash the compressors feeding it.

Nordstream wasn't actually profitable but was political leverage over Germany.

But the far leftist Sy Hersh made up a story that nutters swallowed hook, line, and sinker.

I encourage everyone to go search "Nordstream" right now and read the old takes

This is on the east west railroad from Kursk and west of the Kursk NPP.

Lgov is being heavily shelled by Ukrainian forces indicating they are much more north then previously thought.

Do you mean to discover that gas wasn't flowing with crashed compressors or that Sy Hersh is a longtime lefty journalist who has made stories up in the past too?

I get your overall point, but nothing you quoted is contrary to a ukranian diver blowing up the pipeline. Germany issued a warrant to arrest the people who did it

Actually it is, the post I quoted clearly implies Russia did it themselves.

That’s why I said I get your overall point, but it said “no one in the west”. People in the west seemed pissed enough to issue an arrest warrant.

There’s a few posts ITT suggesting Ukraine may have done it but wasn’t sure how they would go about it.

I never speculated one way or another who did it. It doesn’t matter.

Russia started a war to conquer their neighbor. Ukraine is fighting for survival. Russia got what they deserve.

That can mean actually the west, or the west as in the coalition going against Russia right now which would include Ukraine.

This story that it was done by a general who went rogue and ignored Zelensky is clearly bogus, as is Ukraine doing it on their own. Someone had to be a fall guy because it can never come out that we even knew about the operation, much less supported it.

Then the post doesn't apply to you then, and you weren't mentioned by name anyway

Everything in that is factual unlike the Politard beliefs. Yes, Gazprom did have the most obvious reason to blow it. Also, it is repairable as exhibited by Gazprom's filing insurance claims for estimated cost to repair.

But I put my two cents in anyway because your accusations are not relevant.

Who cares who did it? Who cares what someone guessed? The only really thing of note is why did Hersh make up a story and why did so many come out of the wood work to defend Russia?

They usually aren't because he has issues with people who actually know things, especially when they are not inline with what he believes.

Looks like Russia destroyed their 2nd HIMARS. Only took 2 years. One fired and then went back to its hiding spot but was being watched by a surveillance drone and Russia hit it with an Iskander in the Sumy region. It was firing into Kursk and obviously had GMLTS or an ATACMS in the launcher from the explosion. Only losing 2 systems with another 2 damaged but repaired in 2 years of a hard war is nothing short of remarkable by Ukraine.
