Russian state TV presenter has said that Alaska belongs to Russia, reviving an effort pushed by propagandists throughout the war in Ukraine that Moscow could seize the U.S. state. During a broadcast of the Russia-1 program 60 Minutes, propagandist Olga Skabeyeva referred to the U.S. state as "our Alaska", Agentstvo, an investigative Russian site, reported on Sunday.

There are number of new troops in training for Ukraine, some full brigades being trained in 3 Euro nations made up of evacuated Ukrainians.

There are some crazy Russians out there and in some paranoia runs deep. Many are fun to go drinking and to the banya with for a massage.

Over a year and a half ago, I wrote multiple posts and threads about the persistence of Soviet-style command within the Ukrainian army.

No doubt, old habits are hard to break, but I'd bet that it is much less so in the Ukraine army than in the Russian one. Russia is still using Stalinist era meat wave attacks.

Stalin would have a meat wave attack march through a German mine field knowing an area behind a mine field might be more lightly defended.

ISW Update

Key Takeaways:

The US Department of Defense (DoD) announced on July 29 the provision of security assistance to Ukraine worth $200 million from the authorization of a Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) package and an additional package worth $1.5 billion in Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) funds.

The Kremlin is intensifying its efforts to codify desired behavioral norms within Russia by cracking down against undesirable behavior in the Russian information space and within migrant communities.

The Kremlin is likely attempting to establish prominent standards of acceptable and unacceptable behavior among populations within Russia whose behavior has recently threatened the Kremlin.

Much of the Russian information space response to the recent Tuareg insurgent ambush of a Wagner Group in northern Mali coalesced around the suggestion that the Russian MoD will seek to benefit from Wagner losses, highlighting the continued distrust between the Russian MoD and both the Wagner Group in the Sahel and pro-Wagner commentators.

Ukrainian drones struck Russian energy and utility infrastructure in Oryol, Voronezh, and Belgorod oblasts on the night of July 28 to 29.

Russian forces recently made confirmed advances in northeast of Kharkiv City, in Vovchansk, near Avdiivka, and southwest of Donetsk City.

The Russian government continues to take legislative steps to use migrants and newly naturalized citizens to fulfill Russian military personnel needs.

Russia is losing a lot of men right now in the Avdiivka sector in this advance, but probably not any more than Ukraine is losing. Ukraine had a relatively inexperienced unit collapse along a section of the front, and then the 47th came in and unsuccessfully tried to salvage the situation, with the result that several Ukrainian units are not really providing an active defense but are retreating in something of a chaotic fashion.

The result in that sector of the front has turned from a Russian tactical victory into something resembling an operational victory.

And it's not over at all.

Look, I support Ukraine, but I'm not in here to cheerlead for Ukraine. I'm in here to better understand the war. I think it's important to call it the way it is.

Starstreak is nothing new they just haven’t been made in the numbers of other MANPADS. There just hasn’t even enough of them to really make a difference. The UK didn’t pump these out like we did with the Stinger but hopefully they can ramp up production now because they are hard for an aircraft to take evasive action against something that flies much faster than you can.

An operational victory that yields Russia what exactly? Are they going to be able to break through and roll up the Ukrainians? No. Will they kill Ukrainians and gain some ground but that was a given. Have yall forgotten that the grand strategy for Ukraine is to bear the blunt of repeated blows while building up its forces this year? The Ukrainian generals have made some f**k ups which has cost Ukraine men and land. However as long as Ukraine can continue to have units such as the 47th available to come in and plug holes then it will be ok. Did yall think going on the defensive and trying to limit Russian gains this year was going to be easy for Ukraine?

Has the Russian economy been discussed lately? 18% interest!!!!!!!! Geez that is almost as much interest as A&M is paying to finance the Jimbo buyout.

A bit off-topic (but big-picture related? possibly?)

I've mentioned that the turning point in any resistance is when the police/military face their friends/families/neighbors who are peacefully protesting in the streets, and they are ordered to brutalize them... and they can't do it and turn...

and usually, that starts a chain reaction up the command ladder because nobody wants to be shot by their own troops...

So, Maduro's days might be numbered... and that will affect things in the Americas (like the migrant caravan waves)...

Khomeini watched this topple the Shah and allow him to take power, and immediately he suppressed the instant effort to depose him by shipping in the goat herders from the countryside and paying them to crack skulls of the urban people they hate anyway.

China saw it starting to happen in the early 90s and made a deal with the population that if they surrendered their personal freedom they'd be rewarded with economic prosperity... it has pretty much worked there to an extent, but for how much longer?

As for Russia... well, the Special Military Operation has been very useful in eliminating a lot of the eastern population who might've been a possible rebellious faction once the vodka ran out... Moscow is the only place that matters, as long as that population is largely insulated from problems I guess life just goes on.

First report that North Korea has actually delivered military vehicles to Russia, not just ammo. The unanswered question is whether the Norks also sent the troops to operate these vehicles.
