Yea about that
Nothing like shelling a high rise apartment building from miles away to minimize civilian casualties

Who had Cold War 2.0 on their bingo card?

You don't hit schools, a maternity hospital, and a children's cancer hospital during the first three or four days of fighting if you are going out of your way to minimize civilian casualties.
What you do is, through either carelessness or purposefulness, hit those targets and then claim it was a mistake.

Obviously. But I haven’t seen any indiscriminate shelling of cities on a mass scale. The reports we do get about civilian casualties are rather low. 5-10 here, 20-30 there, 3-4 over that way. Those numbers can easily be chalked up to collateral damage or the Russians just plane missing what they’re shooting at.
This by no means I support the Russian invasion but we can be adults and talk about the facts here without letting our emotions overtaking us because we saw a big boom on Twitter.

My exact thought when I read that.

It allows you to essentially not give a shite what you hit or take out because, "Oops. My bad!" is already factored in.
One or two stray incidents is one thing, but the Russians have pretty much already developed a pattern.

Russia waited until after the Olympics to invade because China requested it. Why didn't they just wait until May to start the invasion? It's not like the Ukrainians were about the join the EU or NATO or about to receive huge shipments of tanks and fighter jets from the west. Putin chose to invade at the start of the Rasputitsa which means his troops are going to have to deal with mud for 6-8 more weeks.

Mariupol begs to differ. They faced mass shelling. They were surrounded and the shelling ramped up.
You don't take out colleges and high rise apartment buildings in every city and get to say....oops.

Meh, maybe last week and over the weekend. But like I mentioned earlier, I have seen much more devastation in the aftermaths of battles in the past few days. Residential areas look like total wastelands in some of the newer footage coming out.
But I also saw where the Russians supposedly warned of the impending attacks and gave ample time for non-combatants to leave the areas. I'm not one to make those decisions for those people though and I'm sure some just can't leave as they have nowhere to go. The vast majority of Ukrainians are pretty damn poor from my understanding.

I linked a Twitter thread last night talking about this. It was pretty interesting.

Xi is probably playing everyone. Lol. Obviously he had his own agenda to gain from with the Olympics but what if he also advocated for it knowing this to frick over Putin? Now he’s got the west’s attention on Russia, a shift in troops and equipment that way, albeit not significant in their respect. Could the world stomach this level of sanctions on both Russia and China simultaneously given China’s importance to the west via exports?

I’m just not seeing it man. Civilians will always be killed in a war. That doesn’t mean every time a civilian is killed it’s a war crime. The term “war crime” has a very specific definition and the vast majority of people apparently think it’s “I saw on Twitter that the bad guy I don’t like did something I don’t like.”
Russia has more artillery and rockets than most of the world combined yet they have yet to level the cities of Kharkiv, Kyiv or Mariupol. Why is that?
Is this Russian army that is apparently inept and can’t fuel or feed their army hitting every orphanage and school in the country with astounding accuracy whenever they want while they can’t even take out Ukraine’s airfields?

When you have troops defending a city that city is going to suffer damage.
Pretty obvious.
