Looks like the Martial Law rumors are getting some traction
from Reuters

The European Union is seeing signs on social media that Russia could introduce martial law in the country after its invasion of Ukraine, an EU official said on Thursday.

Julia Ioffe, who I think is a dishonest and awful person, claims a lot of people she knows (she's from Russia) are racing for the borders to try and get out ahead of it. Lots of people trying to leave with very limited options to do so.

There's going to be lots of people trying to get out of Russia today. Masses of people trying to get on trains to Finland.

What borders are they going to?

I have trouble believing that much of Ukraine’s Air Force is still flying. And even if it were the weather around Kyiv is pretty shitty right now, the whole country really. Low clouds are blanketing the area. I can almost guarantee that those Turkish drones aren’t flying right now.

Would ground forces be able to “hit” the convoy in any significant way (i.e. make the trucks undriveable, best case scenario blowing it up entirely)?

We know anti-tank shoulder-launched missiles are coming from the West. I would think those could seriously jack up a truck if the ground forces can get close enough. (I assume the majority though are being stored in the cities to be used for any major offensive of tanks into city limits.)

Seems like now would be the time to do it if they could since air cover is limited.

I’ll take in some Russian women refugees.

Fun fact: Shah of Irans sister stayed at my grandparents house in pine bluff for like a month after she was exiled during the 1979 Iranian revolution.

Finland, Estonia, Latvia, possibly Belarus to get to Poland or Lithuania. Maybe Georgia or Azerbaijan. Kazakhstan is close for Russians in the Volgograd area. Most of Russia's population is pretty close to one of those borders.

Sure, they have all of those anti-tank weapons we’ve supplied them with. They could hit them with artillery and rockets if they have a means of determining Russian unit locations. If the Ukrainian Air Force is still active they could drop bombs on coordinates through the clouds and hope the Russians are still there. I’m not sure if we’re providing them with accurate targeting information or not. We of course have the capability to precisely locate enemy formations through the clouds but it’s not as easy as people would think, especially in densely wooded areas.

The vast majority of the Russian population is tightly packed in the western part of the country near the Baltic and Finnish borders.

I'm curious to see how receptive these European countries are to taking in these Russians.

+1

Opens them up to the same arguments being used to invade Ukraine by Russia.

Yea I’m not sure how all that came about. My family had a lot of government connections due to who my great grandfather was at the time and it was probably a favor. My grandfather and father went on business trips to the Middle East. They stayed at the presidential palace in Pakistan once. He still has coins and pictures from that trip.

That was the trip where my dad got in trouble twice, once for beating a British guy up in a bar during a layover in the UAE because British dude kept saying all the things Britain has done for the US and my dad responded “you ain’t done shite for me” and then next day going into a bathroom in the airport to pee and he pissed in the trough on the floor thinking it was a urinal. Turns out that’s where they wash their feet
