Who wrote them off? I asked a direct question on how it was beneficial to society.

Its an objective fact the IQ rates from that area.

IQ isn’t really reflective of the various types of human intelligence, because the brain isn’t a proxy for ‘intelligence’ but rather integration of human sensory and physical experiences (as all sensory data except olfaction goes through the thalamus). Humans are robust, meaning that they can survive in several types of environments, both physical and social, and there isn’t a strict predictor of ‘success’ between environments.

Secondly, several exogenous things can mediate IQ by degrees which would make any other supposed test of human physiology unreliable. Nutrition, air quality, and the direct environment in which children are brought up, among several other factors, all can mediate IQ in measurable ways. IQ’s have to be renormed every generation or so, as generally newer generations will score far higher on older IQ tests than what would be predicted if the measure was static (in direct contrast to homeostatic values in lab tests or even clinical approaches like the DSM, which are more robust and consistent).

Thirdly, if IQ exists along a standard distribution, as those IQ studies assert, then that means there is going to be a large percentage of people from the ‘lower IQ’ country who would fall within the normal distribution of the population of the ‘higher IQ’ country. The country that requires bodies for the purposes of employment and sustaining the economic engine also gets the benefits of that distribution, if that country is also stable, and can integrate immigrants well.

The governments of pretty much every country has given up on trying to raise the TFR of the citizens living there. Immigration is the only other answer, unless we completely redesign our political economy from one that doesn’t require a expanding population pool in order to drive consumer demand. Even Japan has increased the number of foreigners allowed to work, from something like 300,000 in 1991 to 2 million in recent years. The populations that are most dead-set against immigration are also the populations that are dying off and didn’t reproduce enough in the first place. It makes very little sense for those governments to listen to a smaller and smaller demographic when the future of the country is at stake. The easiest method of preventing problems with those immigrant populations is to just integrate them completely, which is an area the US actually excels.

Well, one thing that allowed the West to develop was having places for excess population capacity to go. When the growth of population was high in Europe, moving to one of the settler colonies eased domestic pressure on those governments in Europe. Those pressures also drove several million people out of Asia in the post-war era, and given the economic growth, there hasn’t been a downside to accepting those diasporic populations.

The Pentagon produced a paper in like 2018 which predicted that a minimum of 250 million people will move from Sub-Saharan Africa by the end of the century, while at the same time that population continues to grow extremely fast, surpassing 2 billion by 2100. The black pill might be that a symbiotic relationship between developed countries with dwindling populations and growing, less developed countries is actually mutually beneficial in an economic sense.
