What are we "giving" him?

I’m not sure he knows the definition of “giving.”

The choice then becomes do whatever Putin demands due to your personal fear of what you imagine that his reaction might be if you tell him “no,” or do exactly what you have stated you are going to do and deal with the actual reaction if and when it occurs

This is a grossly simplistic viewpoint. There is a middle ground between total Russian or total Ukrainian victory where peace can be found.

Not all 13 of those Slovak Migs are airworthy though. Some are being sent to scavenge parts for their existing fleet. Same with Poland although the majority of the Polish fighters will be ready to fly. I’d say if they get 35 jets between the two there would be 2 squadrons or 24 aircraft that actually fly. The rest will be put to good use repairing other Migs. Looks like Poland will be sending theirs with upgraded radars for use with western missiles and the ability to carry JDAMs. This will all help Ukraine but won’t really move the needle in the grand scheme of things. These planes are still 30-40 years old against more modern Russian jets.

The cheerleaders have their little chants, I believe this must be one of them.

"We must fight for Ukraine or that's giving putin all he wants!

So compromise, right? That may be what happens down the road.

But a decade later what do you do when Russia rebuilds and attacks someone else or Ukrainians in the Donbas decide they want out of Russia and want in Ukraine???

Europe was stable for a good while, but now the Bear has upset the order.

I agree with your premise, but put in the context of why Russia invaded in the first place and the expenditure of lives and capital that Ukraine has put into the defense of their country...I'm not sure there is a whole lot of middle ground.

You mean like Ukraine? You know they have to go and take that through force. So unless Biden has the ability to call up Zelensky and order him to surrender to the Russian army we’re not giving away shite.

Here’s the thing. And I say this as a neutral observer to this whole war. Ukraine needs a settled peace soon. They are staking everything on this anticipated Spring Offensive. They really need to achieve a victory on the scale that would push Russia to accepting a settled peace. If Russia can withstand the coming offensive, the long term prospects for Ukraine are not good. They need this war to end soon.

As for the long term, that’s up to Ukraine and the other European powers. They are going to have to come to the realization that the only way to dissuade Russia from future aggression is for Ukraine and Europe to have strong military capabilities. Basically, they’re going to have to invest in their militaries on a level Europe hasn’t done in generations.

The only reason Putin attacked Ukraine now was he saw what he thought was a prime opportunity to do so because he sensed (rightly or wrongly) weakness in the Western powers.

So going forward, Europe is going to have to rekindle is past military might or face the prospects of this war happening again in the coming years. The best way to prevent war is to make your potential enemies see there is nothing to be gained by going to war with you.

I don’t think Ukraine could ever win.
They can’t conquer Russia.

Russia may quit. They may dump Putin and they might put officials in power that don’t care about empire, but they won’t be vanquished.

When did Ukraine ever try to conquer Russia? They don't have to to win.

I define win by being left alone living in peace.

Besting Russia and pushing them back isn’t winning if Russia rebuilds only to come back again and again.

Who wants to live like Israel?

There are other choices.

I remember France jumped in on our side way back when. They could have done nothing.

They were already at war with England anyways though. A bit of a difference.
