what about using Ukrainian Nazism as an excuse for invading, was that just a made-up casus belli to justify the invasion?

So Putin wanted to change the governance in Kyiv, but not make it like Russia? What’s the point then? Why go through all of this to get a govt installed that’s not exactly what you want so you don’t have to worry anymore?

Why do y’all never make logical sense?

Conquer, take over, annex who cares what you call it.
The conquered Afghanistan, they took over Georgia, they split Poland with Hitler, and in the end they were trying to subjugate Ukraine call it whatever you want.

We have to believe what they say except when it doesn't make sense. Then we have to pretend they were kidding and dig up something else they said.

Hitler wanted worldwide domination of German Aryans

We know this because he said this

He wanted everything

We also know that Russia wanted to take the predominately Russian portions of Ukraine to throw a wrench in Ukraines government in Kyiv.

Because they said this.

Thank you for the information, Autistic Putin Bot.

When someone tells you what they are going to do. Sometimes over 8 years maybe you should ponder if they are going to do exactly what they said.

He’s likened himself to Peter the Great on several occasions…Kyiv was part of the Russian Empire under Peter the Great

You know what, you're right. They wanted another Belarus with a puppet dictator. But what easier during an active war? To do a psyops campaign turning the populous against the government and ousting them or just take over the capital...

Of course.

They were going to force Ukraine to permit the "annexation" along with other concessions that would Ukraine as a puppet state.

Now Russia is scrambling

Honestly, when reports first started coming out that Russia was massing on the border I thought this was their plan. Just invade those eastern parts of Ukraine and slice it off piecemeal like they did in Crimea.

Putin could get his "buffer zone" he says he wanted with NATO, it would be an easy victory for Russia to reaffirm his leadership, and it likely wouldn't be enough to provoke so much Western intervention.

Instead, he went full-scale invasion and it's been a complete disaster.

Well I guess they had no intentions of invading Ukraine because they also said that. Right up until they point their tanks began rolling across Ukraine...

This proves that what ever "they" say is for the convenience of the moment..

Exactly just like the Nazism thing, it was a convenient excuse.

I think the appeasement of 2014 played a role but COVID was the big variable

He thought the west was too weak to support Ukraine. He was wrong

CCP is the CCP, but it's sad to see how , "the worlds largest democracy " , India has responded . After nearly 200 years of British Colonial rule it seems India would be more anti imperialist & condemn this attempted land grab by Russia.

No what they said in 2014 is the same

Look what name even comes up back then from the State Department.

Jen Psaki

Interesting isnt it

The Russian leader insisted, however, that a presidential election should be preceded by constitutional changes in Ukraine aimed at federalising the country and handing greater powers to the regions, steps that would favour greater Russian influence over eastern Ukraine after the Kremlin annexed Crimea.

On Wednesday Ukraine's interim prime minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, dismissed Putin's call to postpone the referendum as "hot air". Later the Ukrainian foreign ministry on Thursday said it was the "absolute priority" of the government of Ukraine to hold "a full-scale national dialogue with the participation of political forces, regional representatives and the public." But it declared: "Dialogue is impossible and unthinkable with terrorists."

The US cautiously welcomed Putin's remarks but described them as insufficient. State department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said
