Actually they are not sound. Ukraine used the same doctrine as Russia up until it got its butt kicked in the winter of 2014-2015. Per my friends in the Ukrainian military that doctrine mainly consisted riding armored personnel vehicles while artillery pounded the enemy. If they were ambushed before they got their then they were supposed to sit still in their BTR or BMP unless they were one of the troops sitting next to a gun slit. They were trained to only leave the vehicle if they were under artillery attack and there was no way out or until they got close enough to the enemy to dismount and charge the enemy position in mass.

Vietnam seems to be doing an ok job. Not that I am in favor of socialism or communism in any form, but to say that communism lite is not possible is just not true.

Yes but it would have occurred sooner than 2022 and we would not be discussing it on a website that was originally for LSU football.

I agree with all of that and that is why history turned out like it did. I never said that MG's idea was a good idea, did I?

A high school classmate married and woman from Vietnam. She had a travel agency there, everything was done in cash, not plastic. The reality is that it might be less socialist in practice than the USA or Europe, per him.

If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been far more focused on what’s going on in Western Europe recently than what’s directly going on in Ukraine (outside of us sending them blank checks). It’s about to get really bad there relative to their modern comforts.

Electricity and natural gas prices dropped the last few days, each day, in Europe, not the USA.

As far as the USA goes, we would be producing more oil than ever but for the 2 million BPD from strippers wells not worth reworking after being shutin for Covid. Those are never coming back yet we are producing almost as much as Jan 2020.

New media is full of morons, all of it.

Asian countries that have embraced state run capitalism or allowing small amounts free enterprise like China and Vietnam are not Communist lite. They are fascists. Open society is in no way permitted to exist in these countries. Gorbachev's idea of a less authoritarian form of Communism was never going to work.

I agree. It didn’t work and it was never going to work. However, Gorbachev thought it would and he tried to implement it. Which is one of the key things that led us to talking about this war and why I posted his death in this thread.

It’s pointless to argue with a Russian. They are raised from birth to believe the lies their government feeds them and their first and only way of getting attention is by fear. Fear of their own people of their government and fear of the outside world because Russia has nukes. The only problem is nobody fears Russia. You aren’t a superpower you aren’t even a power. Your former Soviet member Ukraine despises you and is a fraction of your size yet they have held the great Russian military at bay for half a year when Putin thought his armor would be rolling through Kyiv in 72 hours. A dozen American HIMARS has disrupted the entire Russian military logistical system and put fear into Russian soldiers because unlike them, the Ukrainians can hit exactly what they want when they want versus sending 500 152 mm shells or hundreds of GRAD rockets and hope they hit something of significance. You act like Finland is no big deal but in reality Russian leaders fear it because that acts as a big aircraft carrier 200 miles from St. Petersburg for the one thing the Russian military fears most and has no answer to; the United States Air Force. This guy will spill the party line garbage until the end because that’s the only thing he knows and understands. Nothing anyone says will change one obvious fact. He hates Americans. We are his enemy. He is our enemy. We are the enemy they don’t want piss off though and he knows it even if he won’t admit it.

“Mother Russia” is called that for a reason, most Russians, particularly the older people have to depend upon the state for everything, from the bread they eat to the paper they wipe their arse with, and have for their entire lives.

They are basically dependent little children that act and do as they are told. So you can’t expect anything else out of them. They probably haven’t had an independent thought their entire lives, they are complete sheeple. Hell, Stalin killed damn near anyone that could think, friend or foe. 30 million of them or more.
Problem is that’s eventual economic suicide, he created a whole county of stupid people.

Now many of the younger Russian people want no part of all this bullshite but are trapped.

Kherson Map (August 30 8:00PM) Ukrainian Forces have retaken the villages of Oleksandrivka and Pravdyne in Kherson Oblast Kyselivka and Snihurivka are still fully under Russian control Confirmed With Calls

The Ukrainians continues their drive on Kherson. The village of Kyselivka and the irrigation canal that through it are the only major terrain features and defensive positions for the Russians between the Ukrainian spearhead and the city limits of Kherson. If Ukraine breaks through Kyselivka the Russian forces will be forced to fall back into a city full of citizens that don’t want them there. Between Ukrainian partisan attacks on Russian troops and Russian reprisals, things could get real ugly soon.

Also can anyone explain to me why Russia thought it would be a good idea to put DPR militia with 100+ year old M1891 Mosin-Nagant on the front lines of the main road leading to the objective they were trying to protect?

For reference, the front line is now ~15 miles from the center of Kherson.

I watched a guy that went to rural Russian villages and interviewed several older Russians. He asked them what countries did they not like. The hatred and ignorance spewed from those old Russians was eye opening. Especially the old women. You could see the hate spewing.Their answers were that they hated:

Ukraine- called them facists and nazis
America- evil
Poland- facists
Baltic States- pigs and traitors

You would not believe what they said about the reasons for invading Ukraine. Brainwashed propaganda and sheer ignorance. They really hate Poland alot.

That is one screwed up society.

I watched the same vlogger and almost made a post about it earlier tonight. They had a term more than one used for Poland and Ukraine something like the first betrayer or first defector.

The interesting thing was when he interviewed younger people in the metropolitan areas they didn't harbor the same resentment as a whole. I got the impression it depends a lot on whether one grew up in the USSR or not. I have to admit having not only grown up with the USSR on the "other side" but having been in the military pre-Nov 9 1989 I have a deep-seated dislike for all things USSR and by extension Russia.

BTW I looked at my history and the YT channel is "1420" if anyone wants to poke around it is rather fascinating.
