im ok with nato much more than the UN.

hopefully unrest grows in russia enough to end this.
it sucks because currently ukraine has just replaced Afgan as the slushfund for the MIC. and honestly mainly because russia is led by mad men and his cronies.
it sucks, i fricking hated this shite from the start, but now...frick russia. they invaded a sovereign country who hosted democratic elections. That is a no no, period. frick them and i hope they collapse.

Yes. Again, you simpletons can only think in binary.
This is amazing. This has to be a bit. You literally are thinking of things in terms of binaries and at the same time admonish people for thinking in binaries. For once in your life, have some self-awareness. You constantly set up either/or scenarios and have literally done it in your last few posts.

Hopefully ASAP. I figure its in our best interest to keep this war going though.
Again, would this war continue without US involvement?

Then why does this thread call me a Putin supporter when I’ve done nothing but bash the guy? Both y’all and the Poliboard refuse to believe there is a third option to condemn Russia but also know we can’t go really any further than we are right now without risking escalation or continue bleeding us dry.
Again, if you want to gain respect and acknowledgement, you won't get it by mocking and lashing out at anyone and everyone besides yourself

continue bleeding us dry.
You keep saying this. But we are giving Ukraine about one tenth of one percent of our federal budget.
Out of control entitlement programs are bleeding us dry. (Or not depending on which group of economics you adhere to).
But the money we give Ukraine is a rounding error.
Pounding the table like this doesn't help your argument on why we should leave Ukraine to Russia.

A weakened and defeated Russia is good for the world.
I'm flabbergasted that people
are upset about us spending money in a proxy war against Russia. It's a drop in the pan compared to 1945 to 1991 spending.

The Russian draft season just ended on August 15 and seems to have woefully underperformed, so Putin just signed a decree announcing a planned expansion of their military by 137,000 more troops, though not clear how they'll plan to get them. Here's Dara Massicot (@massdara), who studies Russian armed forces preparedness for Rand:
quote:
the Kremlin is authorizing adding an entire extra draft cycle’s worth of conscripts here— OR roughly half of their pre-war contractniki. Given the refusals and KIA among contractniki and my ongoing suspicions about their spring draft intake — I wonder if this will mean a larger draft. If that’s what it means— and it’s too early to say— it would be a major walk back for the last 15-20years of personnel policy. Conscripts are a major recruiting pool for contractniki so maybe it’s linked to a rebuild. Either way, they are not aiming for replenishment but an expansion with this decree. where will these people come from, a larger draft, muscular recruiting campaign or mobilization? Expansion like this is a move you make when strategic forecasts for the future inside the General Staff are gloomy, or you have a longer term conflict or project in mind.

My point is that it’s completely nuts to be calling people who are in favor of supporting Ukraine “warmongers”….. when Russia literally invaded them. They are defending themselves and I am in favor of supporting them. Not a warmonger.

Cliff's version, Russia is screwed due no chips.

Actively supporting cutting off aid to Ukraine supports Putin and Russia.
Scrutinize what we are sending them, and make sure it gets to where it is supposed to go. That’s fine, but all this sky screaming about Ukraine bleeding us is ridiculous.
Biden is bleeding us dry, not Ukraine.

I agree. Boris Johnson was in Kiev for the Ukrainian independence day (his final trip there as there will be a new PM in about 10 days) and he made some good remarks:
quote:
If we’re paying in our energy bills for the evils of Vladimir Putin, the people of Ukraine are paying in their blood. That's why we know we must stay the course because if Putin were to succeed, no country on Russia's perimeter would be safe and that would be a greenlight for every autocrat in the world that borders could be changed by force. To all our friends, I simply say this - we must keep going. We must show as friends of Ukraine that we have the same strategic endurance as the people of Ukraine.

It’s amazing that simple things like this still need to be articulated.
