the original post on the OT o-t-lounge/stabbing-attack-at-louisiana-tech---4-injured-2-airlifted-suspect-in-custody/110830116/

The account of the incident in the link below paints a pretty bad picture. I am sure the young man's mom is glad he ran and is alive but I bet he is beating himself up pretty bad. Most likely a miserable life playing "what if" in his mind. We would hope we and our kids wouldn't have ran away but the freeze/flight/fight is hard to overcome in a crisis.

rustonleader.com /police-report-sheds-new-light-tech-stabbing-details

quote:

“Grimble said that Johnson grinned at him and continued toward him, so Grimble ran from the gym and toward the east entry doors,” the report states.

On his way out of the building, Grimble shouts to employees at the checkout desk, “You need to call someone. He has a knife!”

By this time, McKane, Woodard and Richardson are descending the walkway out of the east-side Lambright doors.

In her interview with the Leader published last week, McKane said her first sign that something was wrong was when Grimble sprinted past her and hurriedly drove out of the parking lot, though she didn’t know his name.

All this has taken place in less than seven minutes since Johnson entered the Lambright.

Now he exits the eastside doors and down the walkway after Grimble. He encounters Woodard and Richardson and attacks them, stabbing Woodard in the right side of her neck and stabbing and cutting Richardson’s neck and throat multiple times.

McKane hears the women’s screams from the end of the walkway and confronts Johnson, shouting at him to stop. He turns on her. They end up on the ground in the parking lot as Johnson stabs McKane multiple times.

McKane escapes and tries to get to the Lambright doors, but Johnson pulls on her shirt, eventually catching her and attacking with the knife again.

if the update was already posted, i am sorry, but the google search only came up with the original posting on 11/13/2023-11/15/2023 google search

That is the first news article I have read in over 20 years that clearly provided an account of an incident without confusion and unanswered questions.

Upvote, but it would have been even better if written in past tense instead of present tense. At least the reader can readily understand who did what in detail and in proper sequence.

All Grimble knew at that point was the guy tried to steal his phone and was following him while armed with a knife. Can’t fault him for fleeing.

I agree. What was he supposed to do square up to him?

I’m not too sure about that. I think they like to phrase headlines in present tense when possible to show an ongoing situation, but they mostly don't use present tense regarding things that happened in the past.

At least that’s what I’m seeing. Nevertheless, that particular article would definitely read better in past tense.

I get what you're saying, but I don't think you can legally carry a gun on a college campus. Not in La anyway.

How many times have you heard "A Houston man is dead"" instead of "A Houston man has died" on the news?
Past tense sounds old. Present tense shows immediacy

I used to believe as you say…but I have come to realize that 80% of folks don’t have good enough judgement to carry a firearm consistently.

How does someone like that make it that far in life without previous crimes? How does no one around him know that he's a ticking time bomb capable of murdering innocent strangers?
