For your reading pleasure, last week the Advocate exposed the tie between LSU Tigers and the Civil War, this week the Advocate goes after the low hanging fruit of the name of Nicholls State University and it being named for a former Governor of Louisiana and a colonel in the Civil War.

I bet TD could tie the Advocate or the original The Advocate owners to slavery if we tried.

I bet we could tie Mr Ballard to previous racist remarks or a family history of slavery.

Just in case there’s someone out there that’s not figured it out just yet, let me let you you in something. The Advocate is NOT your advocate. It never really has been, or not in a long time now. They are an almost extinct liberal dinosaur breathing it’s last breath, The only thing that’s ever kept it afloat has been the sports section, and since the advent of the internet, there’s just no reason for it to exist anymore. Once the older people who are addicted to it being left on their driveway are gone from here, it’s over for the Advocate, as well as most all newspapers across this country.

In all the stuff about their history, they don't say who owned it before Manship in 1909. They do say it was a Dem paper that was published to help defeat whigs.

They hide the ownership of the paper because they don't want anybody researching that too hard when they are writing all their slave relativity.

From wiki:

The oldest ancestor of the modern paper was the Democratic Advocate, an anti-Whig, pro-Democrat periodical established in 1842.

There's a pretty good chance a pro-Democrat paper in Louisiana in the 1842s was not an abolitionist mouthpiece.

Not Ballard.

This one is by Andrea Gallo.

Also, if you open the link in a Private Tab or incognito mode, that will by pass their paywall.

No subscription, no problems.

And for 19 cents a day I can feed a family of four in Africa.

If the Advocate stopped be a shill for certain causes maybe more people would subscribe.

But as council man once said about a local paper here, “They are so bad, that I would put my crawfish on them.”

Another problem that many papers have is that as they have trimmed their staff, there writing and print product has gone way down. Why should I be paying more for newspaper that used to be 20 to 30 pages a few years ago that is now only 5 to 10 pages long.

Also, consolidation of production is killing them. Tight deadlines mean that one day again you may see a Dewey defeats Truman incident.

For example, The Courier in Houma is owned by Gannett and no longer prints a paper at their plant in Houma. It is published in Lafayette with the Advertiser. In order to print both papers and any other Gannett paper in the area they have to send their paper at about 10 pm for publishing. That is a pretty early time especially on an election night.
