I taught summer LEAP remediation for about five years. Actually, it's great, the way school should be. I taught math to 8th graders who had made Unsatisfactory or Approaching Basic on the LEAP. They know that if they didn't make at least Basic on the retake, they were repeating 8th grade. No discipline problems, no lack of attention, wonderful. It's amazing what a little accountability placed on the students can do for a learning environment. Unfortunately, the state decided this wasn't a good idea and did away with it.
