We never had conventions in Vegas because we didn’t want our franchisors to spend their money in Vegas vs us

I would imagine it's a combination of sports betting being legalized and the CoL these days is astronomical.
Vegas was already overly expensive, but with CoL exponentially more, people can't (or don't want to) afford it.

Vegas will always be packed. For everyone complaining about prices there’s others that have zero problem with it….like us

Are you really serious for $25 for utensils? Now, that’s pretty bad

Within 15 mins, much nicer casinos and restaurants/bars. Food of any nationality. Red Rock Resort and Durango are great. 20 to 30 mins, you get to actual Red Rock hiking area, great trails and scenery. Summerlin has nice trails, scenery, and great restaurants. Within an hour you have recreation at Lake Mead, swimming or hiking, or kayaking below the dam. Or gain altitude within the same distance in the other direction and go to Mt Charleston. Just over an hour you have Valley of Fire which is incredible.
The entire valley has something for everyone. You name it, Clark County has it. People who dont know this havent ever left the Strip.... but if you like the Strip and world class entertainment, thats cool, you have that too.

It has gotten exponentially more expensive in the past five years.
I would assume with so much money involved they have people a lot smarter than me running various algorithms that have led us to their current business model.
Whats astounding is that the building boom they went thru at the turn of the century was funded by profits of the old model of lure them in with free everything and get it all back plus some at the tables. The fact they went from amenities being a loss leader to charging for everything, and then jumped to price gouging for everything including raising table minimums makes me think the revenue now rolling in is astronomical.
And all of this is happening with other states legalizing casinos left and right and the online gambling exploding on the scene.

I have learned not to touch items in the minibar or you can be charged. But now hotels are being even more sneaky…placing unstable items on top of the dresser on sensors…Water bottles, snacks, etc. No sign or any warning. If you Mistakenly knock into the dresser, or open the drawer so the items shift, a $23 charge appears on your bill.

1. Overall interest in gambling has dropped
2. Corporations, etc aren't going to Vegas for conferences, etc.
3. Prices for lodging, meals, etc have surged to unreasonable levels
4. There are many more casinos sprinkled across the country
5. Online gambling is increasing

Years ago I kind of enjoyed going to the local casinos once a year. Eat a decent meal and blow a hundred bucks on slots with my wife. Leave a couple hours later with no winnings but at least was entertained for a 2-3 hours. Went to Vegas on a business trip and as fast as I could feed the slot machines, the money was gone. 100 bucks gone in just a few minutes. Did not even try and drag me a long. I now have zero interest in going to a casino. Zero.

I don’t think there has been a drop in interest in gambling. Based on commercials and coverage, I’d say it’s the opposite. But with online gambling, you don’t have to go to Vegas for it.
It’s hot and expensive is likely a big reason. Also, tourism from outside the country has dropped this year and that was probably a decent part of their tourism demographic.

We went to Ellis Island off the strip in 2011 and my wife and FIL played Penny video slots for 6 hours for $1.

The tourists from the far east, along with masks, can stay away from Vegas!!
