The point of the video is that it says that that won’t matter, that resources aren’t being used for the betterment of the state and that the state still ranks last in many very important metrics. On top of that, it also suggests that there is little evidence that a project like this would do anything to change that.

again you don't understand WTF you are talking about. Its real simple do you want the tax money in 10 years and the jobs starting now or would you like to see them go elsewhere?

Texas has lower rates then us, more exemptions etc and they are rolling in it. LC will be in about 10 years also.

Jobs and less lazy people. Spurring economic growth through job creation can help one part but not the other.

I live in Texas, and I can visibly see the differences between the states, but what are we doing different than LA that keeps LA from becoming a better state?

LC's direct economic competitor is the "golden triangle" in Texas. Lake Charles is more than holding its own.

Not taxing the shite out of businesses and investing in infrastructure.

Aha, what a novel concept. I don’t know where LA’s tax dollars go, but a lot of people in this thread seem to think the state is doing fine with it and will be doing swimmingly in ten years or so.

Your right we are, but we are also competing with the greater houston area for these types of jobs. We are holding our own against both, but only because of tax breaks like this.

AS far as jumptheshark asking what Texas is doing different, its using exemptions like this. Go look it up. They stole most of the O&G sector from NOLA to Houston by offering tax breaks. LA is in the position it is in for the opposite reason Together LA says, its because we tax the frick out of people.

LC area still taxes the shite out of people with the dumbass sales taxes here which are amongst the highest in the nation.

Again Jump has no clue about what he is talking about.

Its really simple, do you want the construction jobs now and the taxes in the future or do you want nothing? there is no other choice.

poor/lower class people, primarily

we have a bigger % of this culture than almost any other state. that is why we rank so low and have a hard time attracting private investment

well most of LA will still be a shithole but LC should be a beacon of hope and positivity

maybe you should find out before posting propaganda.

the list is long btw but for starters:

-break all public and private unions
-consolidate the myriad of local permiting/regulation at the state level
-consolidate, reduce and simplify the tax code
-consolidate state institutions - such as higher es, the state legislature etc
-encourage independence not dependence, ie eliminate homestead exemption, reduce welfare programs, eliminate minimum wage

simple enough....

that's what i never understood about the locals here jumping on this issue

we will make so much in sales tax $

they're just greedy and still have the LA mentality of plundering any outside company who wants to invest in LA

Well shite, I guess you guys have it all under control then? I’ll just be on my misguided way and watch Louisiana shoot up the ranks! I don’t have skin in the game, I don’t live there any more, but I think they have some good points and I think you sound like part of the problem shouting louder than anyone that any inkling of an opposing viewpoint is some kind of propaganda. The whole theme is that the states a shithole and it can’t be argued. You can argue until you’re red in the face and blast anything posted on here, but you’re in denial. Keep it up the status quo guys!

WTF are you talking about? This is exactly what we are suggesting. The together LA is suggesting the opposite.

Nobody said the state was doing fine, its not and mainly because of the dumbass ideas groups like Together LA put out and use to manipulate a ignorant populace with headlines like this

But its real simple, LC area can keep the status quo or they can change to be more like Texas, they made the decision about 10 years ago to do everything possible to be more like texas and its paying off.

What in the frick are you talking about? At this point I don't even know what you are trying to point out because you are all over map.

First you linked together LA which is calling for higher taxes and more of the status quo that lost the state a shite ton of jobs.

Then you say LA should be more like texas with lower taxes and more infrastructure which is exactly what the OP exemption is trying to do.

so you are all over the map. I realize LA is a shithole and it will be so long as we have a culture that celebrates the underclass and we continue to tax the shite out of business.

I am not screaming or argueing simply saying you don't understnad the issues but oyu continue to act like you do.

when those exceptions dissolve, SWLA is going to be fricking rolling in tax money

from the plant or a different source? what if the company asks for the exemptions again or an extension of them?

This is the complaint about Dow by WBR politicians. Dow gets an exemption to build/run a new unit basically saying they will pay later. But when later comes, they threaten to close the same unit cause they can't afford the taxes. So the taxes Dow promised/promises to pay, never materialize. Thus the local politards feel like Dow isn't paying its "fair share".

FTR, I feel like Dow provides enough of a contribution to the economy by employing a bunch of people. The politards are just greedy. What say you?

The point is though that taxing the crap out of these multi-billion dollar projects will send them straight to Texas. Louisiana can take the hit on property tax now for a few years while the project is being built and still profiting off sales taxes, income taxes, and the economic boom for LC of over 6000 workers (with an avg pay of about $75-$80k) for 10 years then get all those property taxes when the 6000 workers are gone. It's not like Louisiana would save $2B if the project didn't come, they would get $0 if the project didn't come.
