Yeah, that's when they were built as work vehicles (trucks). Now they're McMansions on wheels.

I'd put the GX last on my list. I've known several people who bought because it was a Lexus and all had immediate buyer's remorse. All but one have since sold them.

Three common reasons:
-Very thirsty
-Swing gate rear
-Infotainment setup old and not intuitive

I love the Tahoes and Suburbans - but I agree, they are too much.

Fully loaded Yukon XL with the AT4 package (e-LSD rear end, off road hardware, air suspension with the 10” ground clearance, etc) will run $70,000 and can get more expensive easily.

A 4x4 Suburban High Country with similar options will be around $80,000. That’s probably what I would get, but not for that price.

Yukon Denali would be $85,000, and that thing looks great. The interior looks incredible and the styling is very traditional “American SUV”.

The loaded Cadillac Escalade ESV is easily $105,000-$110,000 with all options. Probably the nicest interior you can get in an SUV for that price.

And they aren’t giving many discounts. They don’t have to. They are moving every one they can build.

Because they literally just came out This time next year you'll be able to buy them $10k off sticker just like before. Same thing is happening with the new F150. It'll normalize soon enough.

I think the GX is largely a niche SUV. I know a handful of people with one, and they all love it. But all but one of them are Toyota truck enthusiasts with families. It's the middle ground of being a truck they can take off road in the morning, then the kids to the soccer game in the afternoon, while also still being on the luxurious side for a nice date night with the wife.

If you're looking at it for a large SUV with all the bells and whistles, you're going to be greatly disappointed in it most likely.

They are saying the E-LSD rear end in the new Suburban and Yukon are better off road than the old G80 locker in the pickup trucks. That height adjustable air suspension is pretty cool. It can give a max of over 10” of clearance - more than the 4Runner or Land Cruiser.

I’d be shocked if the same rear end was not eventually offered on the pickups.

My wife has a Buick Enclave. It’s nice but figuring out some of the controls is crazy. Ex: some of the climate controls are on the touch screen and some are on buttons below it.

That’s crazy. I’m glad people want to spend their money, it helps the economy and US jobs (to an extent).

But 70K for something my 9 year old will throw up in (he gets car sick occasionally) and my teens might crash - no thanks.

The last one is my only issue (besides the Lexus rear lights). To their credit, they run well, are reliable, are a relatively good value and they're comfortable.

I don't really care that it's a Lexus, I just want a professional, non-gimmicky body-on-frame SUV

Just bought a 2021 Tahoe RST and I love it.

Huge upgrade from the previous model. All new tech inside and out. Dealer didn’t really come off the price though. Not a lot of them out there. Had to pick mine up in Jackson, MS.

We bought a 2 year old Sequoia under 20k miles for a little more than 20k off the MSRP. While dated compared to the new GM products, it's a great truck. And it was half what a new Suburban would cost.

You'll lose this battle but I support you

"Compacts" are basically full size SUVs these days in my mind

Aren't Sequoia's even more outdated than the GX?

I agree though, I like the idea of a Sequoia

they're large for eurofag cars, but the explorer, 4runner(some) and highlander all have 3 rows.

they're the midsized options for 'yota and Ford.

the other soybean SUV, the acadia/traverse also has 3 rows, and is still smaller than the yukon/Tahoe, which is even smaller than the 'burban.

so

tldr: the kia/Hyundai are definitely midsize

New Traverse actually has more cargo volume than a Tahoe. Acadia does not as they are no longer exact copies of the Traverse.

the interiors of the chevy are horrible. they'd be wise to invest some money in re working the appearance of all the dash and interface. it all just looks old and dated

the yukons aren't much better either
