I'm looking for a new laptop (preferably a Mac). Anyone have any suggestions?

Go to the Apple website or a retail outlet.

If you can afford it, Mac.

Is there much difference in a pro and air?

Air is lighter and better retina graphics

I got a Lenovo Yoga a few moths ago. Seems to be legit so far.

Get a Win10 (Dell, HP, Acer, whatever).
This will sound rude, but Apple is a crap company and their laptops are made for children and dumb people.
The business world and gaming industry is PC.

The battery life is crazy. Never had a laptop that could last 7 or 8 hrs on a charge.

I have a man that I still use but recently purchased the dell XPS 15 and it's a beast as far as raw power goes
I still hate windows by I am dual booting into Linux mint to get around that issue

That is what I got a few months back for a home laptop. Was $549 when I got it. Could not beat the specs @ that price point.
Always get the most powerful cheap one. Outside of a gaming rig, you should never pay over $600 for home use. That is the issue with Apple, you are overcharged for the specs you get.

LOOK FOR DEALS ONLINE at every store: BestBuy, Office Depot, hesitant to say Walmart (I'm not down on walmart, I just know their options didn't fit me but they can certainly fit others), etc. You can frequently get a much cheaper price online than in a store, which is what i did for mine that I got online form Office Depot.
I can't speak to Mac. It has its place but not for me.
Know what size RAM and Hard drive you need. Know what speed CPU you need. Know what all capabilities you want such as bluetooth, number path, ports, etc. Be meticulous.

Go with an HP
