Looks like in LA, they don't have to give advance noticed though.

This is true. However, if they make a habit of it, there are other remedies a tenant can avail themselves of on a residential single family dwelling to curtail it. If it is commercial or multi-family, though, you are SOL.

If your landlord is that much of a busybody, find another place. Also, if you move into a house where the landlord still keeps some of his things there, don't rent it.

If fair housing means I get low income rent, no. Young professional so I’m getting ripped on rent in theBR area. Looking to purchase soon.

As far as not giving you better details than “popping by” , I felt that was enough for a topic.
Any OT Bawlers with rent property that have any advice?

frick yeah I’m mad. I was woken up for damages to be assess and pictures to be taken of my entire house/room/backyard/garage/kitchen/garbage disposal, at 8AM as I’m leaving for work. Took 30 minutes. Had to call into work because of my landlord. How believable..?

Well, they own the place.. you are just borrowing it. And be thankful you live somewhere that wants to fix stuff.

And do you mean call in late or didn't go.. because that would be laziness. Either way, they can come in without you there to check on things. You could of left for work.

for a pop by visit, no

for an inspection of the property, yes

they have a right to check to see the property isnt being trashed or any illegal activity is going on

It goes both ways. Show that landlord every thing that needs to be fixed even as small a light bulb out or hvac air filter needing to be changed. Better yet have a long list written down on paper to present him. Every little fricking thing you can find like a drip from a faucet. Then tell him since you like to stay on top of this shite I hope it can all be done by the end of the week. When that's done I'll start a new to do list for when you come by next month

That’s the thing. He they don’t stay on top of shite. And to be clear these people are only worker bees for a leasing agency essentially. They come about 3-4 times ever 6 weeks let’s say. Randomly. And it’s usually just a maintenance man. Not the landlord. This time it was a random woman as well. So take it as you want.
I don’t like non homeowners, that work for homeowners, in my home unannounced. It is technically my home temporarily for 1 year minimum.
Bottom line it feels like an invasion of privacy.
And yes I went to work. But had to call in late. I’m not letting a semi sketchy maintanence man and some lady that helps..? Idk her title, but not landlord, in my house while I’m not there. Sorry. Not happening.

She came in and took pictures of my bedroom. Does that require notice?
Or how about walking around the house and back yard? I’m fine with that.

A landlord should call and give you notice if they swing by ,but she can enter the premises to inspect the property if it is in the lease. I don't know why anyone would oppose if that is what she is doing. Ensuring the property is properly maintained is in the best interest of both parties.

sounds like she is getting ready to put the place up for sale or getting ready for you to move out if the lease is up.

she "was" rude to not at least give you some advance notice to clean up the place first but not much you can do about it

Tia

I had a landlord my last semester at LSU that would do that on game day morning. Would get a call at 8am asking to come by and walk through the condo in two hours. Thankfully my sister was already living there when i moved in and kept the place clean and we didnt throw any big parties or anything there, but it was pretty irritating nonetheless.
