American dream bro. Buy 5 acres of land in Youngsville and dont live in a subdivision. Build a pretty house and relish in the country life.

Broussard/ Youngsville area is the best place right now. With the AMB extension reaching All the way to HWY 90 now, this area will be booming soon. Plenty of nice neighborhoods to choose from

First off, would the kids go to public or private schools?

Prob. Public (they aren't school aged yet) - Looking at Plantation Elem and Ernest Gallet Elem in the areas we like. Are private schools a must in Laffy ?

RR is overpriced, but if you can afford it you'll never have to worry about some white trash POS moving next door.

Not really. The people who send their kids to private schools in Laffy primarily do it by choice. Most of the public schools are just fine.

This is it. It's fairly overpriced, pretentious, new money, and is filled with houses that are downright gaudy. It's often a place filled with tasteless, overpriced, opulence.

It's still a great neighborhood, though.

A lot of the new construction houses are in the same price range as RR per sq ft I've noticed. I just like the added benefit that the neighborhood provides, like bars, restaurants, shopping, etc. But I actually prefer the newer subdivisions - like the houses better.

You will pay as much or more to buy 5 acres in Youngsville as it will cost you to build a house. A friend of mine just bough 4 acres off 187 near cade, it was 280k.

It's a nice neighborhood, but then I'd likely have to drive into Lafayette for work.

Broussard is a nice place. Not as overpriced as youngsville but it's getting there near the side that is close to youngsville.

This. There's a lot of old school laffy that will always do Fatima or Cathedral for middle school and STM for high school, but it's not really necessary, especially if you can get your kids into Lafayette High.

It has the most benefits of any Lafayette neighborhood and you don't have to worry about some tPOS moving next door. Also, it's in the city, so if you need something that you can't walk to, you're only a short drive away.

The "old money" guy I know in Lafayette went to Lafayette High. The public high schools (outside of a couple) aren't really bad.

Assuming price is the same across the board,

This is a huge qualifier. If money were no option I'd be in river ranch, off of east bayou, or in fernwood. I think the ranch gets a lot of hate because it's so pricey. You're going to pay $220/sq.ft. or more, which is absurd.

Youngsville and Broussard are both growing so they are good options, but I'd stay away from the cookie cutter tract house subdivisions. I just bought a lot off of East Broussard road and will be building next year, fwiw...there are several very nice subdivisions back there. All in all, I'd say just stay south of the Vermillion unless you really want to be next to UL for some reason.

I dont' know about Laffy, but I'd rather eat 100 dicks than send my kid to the elementary and middle schools in Broussard. He'll go to SCS. I hear Comeaux is a decent high school. But I honestly don't know anything about it seriously. My next door neighbor is a teacher there.

The hate for RR is partly due to the "hey look at me, I'm a cool yuppie/hippie who lives in River Ranch" attitude of many of it's residents. Secondly, there are shitloads of $40,000 a year "bazillionairres" and trust fund dudes who buy a house, move in and 2 years later get foreclosed on.

The neighborhood between South City/Duhon road and East Broussard. On the left of Johnston if heading south towards Maurice.

The houses in the front of the neighborhood are relatively nice, older homes. The back of the neighborhood there are really nice, newer houses.

It's a nice place because its not in the middle of Johnston traffic. Kind of "ducked off", though the area is building quick.

Schools are:
Elementary: Broadmoore
Middle: Edgar Martin
High School: Lafayette High
