Judge Jules Edwards has revoked Marshal Brian Pope's probation.

Pope was sentenced to 30 days in jail with time served. He was escorted out of the courtroom Wednesday morning by a bailiff.

He was originally placed on probation after being found in contempt of court in a public records request lawsuit.

Pope also has charged from alleged actions during the 2015 Lafayette Parish Sheriff campaign, when prosecutors say Pope used his public office to aid a political ally vying for the seat. Some of the evidence was uncovered when a newspaper sued the marshal for refusing to turn over related emails.

Pope's also accused of malfeasance for calling an official press conference to attack Lafayette Parish Sheriff Mark Garber during the campaign. That press conference spurred The Independent to sue Pope when he refused to turn over emails related to the event.

Pope spent seven days on house arrest in the past so he will serve 23 days behind bars.

He’s given Pope multiple chances before this, but Pope continues to think the law doesn’t apply to him.

Shackles and cuffs? Do they think he is going to run off? Bit of overkill there.

He's going to be booked into the jail of the guy he openly did not support in the sheriff's race

Recall effort fell short and Pope arrested one of the organizers the day it failed on a warrant for 20 years ago. Pope’s lawyers also want the list so they can exclude people from the jury, but apparently the list was destroyed because the organizers feared retaliation.

It’d make for a shitty TV movie if it weren’t actually happening in real life in my hometown.

Judging from what people said about his involvement with the sheriff, this is likely a little payback

Yep, I know a few cops who supported him. They openly claimed they would get even with the recall effort people. “Dey don’t know who Dey frickin with, baw.”

If my family didn’t live here, I would’ve left La a long time ago.

He’s made himself the highest paid public employee in Lafayette Parish, paying himself twice what the Sheriff and Chief of police make, and he is the Marshal for the city court! He’s a damned thief.
