There are 2 older ladies that live on my street, they both are single and live alone. I’d say they both are in their 50’s. They never have company or anyone visit them.
One has 4 dogs that she walks almost 5 or 6 times a day and the other has 2 dogs that she must walk all day. I honestly believe she just walks around the neighborhood all day and only goes to her house once or twice during the day and only at night to sleep.
It’s nice because I know they are always watching out for us people that work and have lives and can’t be home 24/7.

For most people after your basic needs are met (safety, housing, food), true happiness and meaning can only be found through altruism IMO.
This can be expressed through giving your time to volunteering, church outreach or most commonly through raising kids which requires your needs to be secondary to theirs.
Most of the things we chase like cars, alcohol or football games can enhance a life to a certain extent, but will never provide the meaning we all seek even if we don’t realize it.
It’s very sad to watch people struggle with depression and sadness when fulfillment is right there for every single one of us if we stop chasing it through things and focus on helping other people, appreciating what we have and finding balance in ourselves.
