Sure, get a Lab...if you want to be like every other Louisiana baw.

People who hunt want a black or brown.
Labs are great friends... I mean dogs. Socialize them. Play with them. Train them (they are smart). They tend to be real retrivery/mouthy. Give them toys to play with....or they will find toys/furniture to play with.

My brother in training a guide dog black lab. She's awesome but already is mouthing, chewing, nipping, anything she can get her mouth on. he's not allowed to have her outside off a leash so yard or no yard isn't an option for her. However she's still am awesome pup.

Great dogs. Will also be good if you get married and have kids.
Be careful with the apartment thing. Some places limit the size on dogs.

You couldn't have created a better case NOT to get a dog, much less a lab.
In general, if you're going to end up making the dog stay home all day by itself day in, day out, reconsider. The isolation tends to make them a little nuts, and labs are known to eat or dig up whatever environment you confine them in. If you can come home for lunch, or have someone look in, or even take him to doggy daycare, that would be OK.

Meh. My lab is 3 years old and she grew out of the chewing phase in her first year. Basically a big teddy bear now. As long as you train her and keep a bunch of toys around you'll probably be ok in my opinion.
Labs are hands down my favorite breed
Edit: she was raised in an apt her first 2 years.

All good points. I live right down the road from work and in outside sales so im usually home for an hour or so everyday for lunch.

Never having owned a dog before shouldn't be much of a case for not getting a dog as long as you realize that you need to do your research before getting the dog.

As far as that goes, it would be a luckier dog than many I've known.

Not Milli Vanilli
My last one was a British and they have great noses. And yes I hunt but they are just great companions. But I have land for them to roam with plenty of water too.

I agree, but as someone who has owned dogs, the other factors I listed would give me pause.

I agree. Lots of people aren't able to get home for lunch, which makes a big difference IMO.
If you want a dog, lab or otherwise, do your research. Learn what to do to keep you and your dog happy, which generally means lots of exercise and attention.
And I know I keep harping on this, but please rescue. I have a rescue that is loyal to a fault, and I think me taking him in after he had been in the shelter for 3 months is the reason.

You might as well start chewing on everything you own now. Get to it before the lab does.
eta: if you really want an adventure, get a Chesapeake Retriever. They'll alpha the frick out of your whole block.

A lab puppy will be very high maintenance for a couple years.
Not really a good apartment dog, but they are great in a yard or on a farm.
They will chew things that you wouldn't believe they'd chew.

Rescue is definitely an option.

My choco lab is about 4 years old and he just chewed up the handle on a hammer I forgot to put up and went back to get it 45 minutes later. a-hole dog.

...and destroy the things they are supposed to chew, too. Mine rendered a so-called indestructible kong chew toy to bits in minutes, and then looked at me like "what's next homie?".
