Son just started at Tech and what I like is how they start the engineering curriculum from jump….not have 2 years of additional high school and then start. What do you mean here

LSU students typically go 3 semester before truly getting into degree relevant subjects

Tech has Freshman level engineering classes geared towards developing an engineering mindset for new students on Day 1

Tech freshman participate in some entry level engineering projects that earn credit over multiple classes. Stuff like building an autonomous robot that can traverse a maze. Or a fish tank that can manage oxygen and salinity levels

My kid graduated from Tech with a degree in Cyber Engineering. He’s working for a Fedgov contractor with a full scope background check. Kid turned 26 and is making nearly $300k

Tate and Higher Ed Commissioner Reed (former Obama Deputy Secretary) made LSU “test optional” in the name of DEI

I’m not sure why I even asked, Tech is clearly superior

I graduated 15 years ago but this wasn’t true in my experience

Grieves me to say it but…

For IT careers, Tech is light years ahead of LSU

You’re probably correct. I thought we were talking about traditional engineering degrees

Well, Tech isn’t light years ahead of LSU in actual engineering degrees, but it is better. Things have changed from 15 years ago, and that seems to be difficult for people on here to understand. To be fair, I’d be happy with my kid getting an engineering degree from either of the two.

Can you help us out a little bit with what you actually were trying to say in your original post? Did you mean to type “piss”?

Actual made me sound like a dick, I meant traditional

How is it better in the traditional degree programs these days?

went to LSU for undergrad and for grad school. Very happy with my experience and it helped me build a career that has absolutely taken me so far beyond where I ever thought I’d be. I’m 10 years away from having these chats, but if things don’t change I might encourage my kids to choose LaTech over LSU.

Thanks for being honest. I’m in the same boat. There’s too many die-hard LSU fans here that are too brainwashed to tell the truth. A quality education is available at LSU, but the demographics and culture are shifting. And Ruston is a much safer place than BR. You can not argue these facts.

Please provide the data to back up these claims, because I'm calling bullshite.

Your son is an extreme outlier making 300k a year at 26 majoring in any engineering curriculum

That’s extremely impressive

Employer and student feedback for me, personally. But Tech will point to recent rankings such as Niche Rankings.

Yep…you can look around and find success at a variety of other institutions in the state that may have a better XYZ program than LSU statistically, but they may have fraction of the students.

For example, a program at a smaller school may have 100% passing rate at graduate exit exams with only handful a year, while LSU may have exponentially more kids and a few party animals that bring the statistics down to 95%.

I know quite a few people in Texas who have kids at LSU, cheaper for them to go there than stay in state. Most were denied by UT or A &M and didn't want to go to UH or one of the directional schools. And of course they all say LSU is a great party school.

Tech is NOT regarded as a more superior engineering program. Not even close.

My company puts far more interest in LSU and McNeese vs LaTech. Think about that. Oh, my current firm is elite and widely regarded as that.

Is Tech a bad program? Not at all. But it is not what some here are trying to make it.

Funny thing is my old roommate got booted academically from lsu then salvaged his plans at Tech. Was much easier according to him. Granted that’s anecdotal.

Bulldogs, don’t be mad at me. It is what it is.
