LA School Vouchers and LEAP

So... any child in grades 3-8 who is getting a voucher to attend private/Catholic school... still has to take LEAP.
The school scores are out.
The state average for 3rd through 8th grades is a 34 - this is the percentage of students scoring at mastery or above (the options are advanced, mastery, basic, approaching basis, and unsatisfactory).
Let's see how some of the catholic schools did. (Remember, only voucher kids in these schools take the test) (I did not post all of them, only a sampling)
Baton Rouge area:
Holy Family - 27 - this is the high water mark - 7 points below state average
Holy Ghost - 11
Mater Dolorosa - 17
Most Blessed Sacrament and Redemptorist - 8 - this is the low water mark
St Louis - 18
NOLA:
St Leo - 29 - this is the high water mark
Ascension of Our Lord - 20
Our Lady of Divine Providence - 9
Our Lady of Perpetual Help - 10
Resurrection - 17
St Alphonsus - 22
St Andrew - 6
St Dominic in Lakeview - 4
St Mary Magdalen - less than 1 percent - low water mark
Not a single Arch of NO school or Diocese of BR school scored at or above the state average.
All of this can be found on the Louisiana Believes website
Now... what conclusions can we draw from these scores?

That it’s not necessarily the school (or school district) which is responsible for students’ poor performance.

I agree
So then does it make sense to give state money to private schools? If the results aren't going to be any better?

So where are all of the other BR Catholic elementaries and middle schools you are leaving out?
What is the criteria of your sample? Why these schools?

It's the kid, not the school, but you're not allowed to say that.

I'm not sure, but do the public schools prep for the leap..?
Taking practice test..?

Do they state how many took the test from that particular school..?
Just feel like a lot is being left out..

The voucher program is a big waste of money and a trojan horse to the private school system. If the child has no support at home it doesnt matter what school they're in. The only thing it will do is bring the smarter kids down.

I got tired of typing... but they all fall between the high and low scores I posted.

Truth
Its like putting a boy on the girls wrestling team and pretending hes just one of the girls.

Same can be said for publics involved in deseg lawsuits, busing, and M to M.

Catholic schools teach kids a curriculum that will help them long after they are out of school. Public schools teach kids how to pass the leap test so their schools get good overall gtades. The only problem with that is once those kids leave public schools that kind of education rarely will benefit the kids once they leave school

One of the biggest issues facing LA public schools has been tailoring lesson plans to pass standardized tests and not much if anything else.

Congrats. We were down a bit, but I wasn't surprised. We've had a big shift in demographics in the last five or so years.

So, you're familiar with the format and content of the current LEAP test? Tell me more.

My first thoughts are:
1. Public schools teach the test. Private schools offer no prep whatsoever, so these kids are on their own for LEAP prep.
2. You are comparing the state average of thousands of kids which includes at lot of elite public schools and excellent students, to a small amount of voucher students who virtually all came from failing schools.
