I was doing flight instructing out of John Wayne International as I was getting out of the Marines. They shut down the airspace around LA. I had to take a cross country with my student and we skirted around LA you could see smoke rising in South Central. Looked like London during the Blitz in '41.

On the whole, black people are treated same as white people by police officers. Just are taught that police protect others from them.

True or false?

No need to answer.

Some deserve differentiated treatment. Same for some of whites.
Many do not.

First hand observations and enough of them to believe this to be true.

Great summation. Take away social media, and they are even more similar. A mostly regional instead of national event.

I remember the fall after the LA riots, the TV show Different World tied the riots into their fall premiere. It was rather shocking for the time.

I was a junior in college. Friend of mine got a blue hat and had LAPD printed on it. He wore it to class and when anyone questioned him, he said he just wanted to show his support for Law Enforcement. In retrospect, that was quite the troll.

The beat Rodney Kings arse. The man was down and they kept beating. There were some pissed off people but they didn’t burn the shite down until the court proceedings were over.

The George Floyd shite happened the day he died. 92 LA folks were a hell of a lot different than 2019 Minneapolis

Rodney King, not a saint, was clearly roughed up good by police. The black community had complained about it and now had video proof. Yet, officers got away with it.

Right. It was sick how they beat that man. I’m sure King was a PITA but damn.

And 30 years ago, who knows. The black community probably did have a better complaint about police brutality. Whereas nowadays they have to create fake racism and pretend to be oppressed for victimhood points. Not that they were oppressed in 1992 generally either but cops were undoubtedly more heavy handed back then.

Black power means destroying the communities where the majority of blacks live and work, along with the businesses of immigrants from a country who came here to escape a civil war. This video best encapsulates the hypocrisy of those rioting.

Major difference though is those cops beat the frick out of King with batons and I couldn’t believe Kings survived it.

Whereas the cop kneeling on Floyd most certainly should have taken his knee off his neck but it’s also highly likely the cop didn’t realize Floyd was actually dying. Most people can’t talk when they can’t breathe, and criminals lie to cops all the time while being placed under arrest.

I was on the ground in LA.
What would you like to know?

Would it be at that time the LAPD officers were told to hold back.
The officers on the ground wanted to protect the citizens.

There was a struggle between Mayor Bradley and LAPD Chief Gates. These people were both stubborn and never could get along.

Gates, was old school and ran the dept to be aggressive especially in high crime areas.

He was chief for along time due to he made the feel people that mattered politically feel safe.

Mayor Bradley, wanted the department to become less aggressive.

Instead of finding a middle ground both men never seemed to work together.

Did Bradley and Gates not see the potential for a not guilty verdict or a hung jury when the case was moved to Simi Valley? Was there no anticipation for anything other than a guilty verdict?
