They know you aren’t paying your fair share because you’re a “work” from homer

If the extra 300lbs a mild hybrid weighs destroy your roads, i think you have bigger problems. But then again this is Louisiana.

It's a combination of increased wear and decreased gas tax.

Real question... what's the benefit of a hybrid if not gas savings?

My wife has a PHEV and we have a similar fee here in Utah. It's less than 1 tank of gas. Since she purchased the vehicle back in Jan, she's used 1/4 a tank of premium. I'm 110% OK with the additional fee. Our gas savings more than offsets the minimal cost.

Well it was supposed to get better mileage according to Toyota.. It doesn't..
I basically get the exact same mileage I got with my previous Ford Expedition and Chevy Suburban and a 12 gallon smaller tank to boot.. It's the only gripe i have and now I getting hit with a road tax that shouldn't apply to me.. its stupid AF

Sounds fun... would not be worth the additional costs in registration and insurance for me though. I am poor.

I don't think 60 dollars will kill anyone just another greedy government fee

How's the insurance? My mom got sold on "gas savings" of a corolla hybrid and whatever she "saved" was more than eaten up on higher insurance premiums.

Because Louisiana has stupid leaders and programs like Baton Rouge’s council on aging. Instead of using the money for what it was originally intended for, they use it on stupid stuff. Instead of choosing to reallocate the money to the right place, they choose to take even more money from the tax payers. Only about 40-50% of the revenue generated from road usage/vehicles is actually used to maintain/build our roads.

Yes, because our state also has a clause that allows you to pay 1.25 cents per mile capped at the flat fee for EVs/hybrids/PHEV. If you drive less that 4k miles per year that is the way to go.

Hope it's not too bad- my mom might just be a shitty driver. I will say hubby and I are looking for our next vehicle and were interested in possibly a hybrid but googling/ai'ing it said the insurance will be more. When we get closer to purchase time we will discuss with our insurance before making that decision.

Thanks.. .. It's mind-numbing how expensive it is .. And her little sister is right behind her so my pain is far from over..

I just checked and if i replaced it with a newer non hybrid SUV ( Ford Expedition) the savings would be around $83 total....every 6 months... Not that big of deal..

That's not terrible... I guess it just hit my mom harder as she works only part time and isn't exactly rolling in dough.

What do you have?

I'm looking at the hybrid Grand Highlander for my wife's next vehicle because we are moving rural and she will have more highway miles as opposed to city miles, so I was hoping for some gas relief

And the difference between the hybrid and the electric fee differences is only like $37 when i pay for gas all year. What the frick.
bill we received showed hybrids pay 60 and fully electric pays 120 for the year. We have a hybrid.
