The point is that electric cars don't pay a gas tax...so fees like this are making sure they "pay their fair share". So libs and progressives should love it.

We should have access to off road gasoline that isn't taxed for all the boats we have here in Louisiana

How many gallons of fuel is burned in boats here? Charged the same road tax a car pays per gallon of fuel yet the boat does not actually "drive" on the road...just another tax to line pockets

What do you have?

Sequoia.... It's stated to get 19/22... I get maybe 16 city .. I do get 22+ highway.. But a 20ish gallon tank means I stop a lot on long road trips..

I'm looking at the hybrid Grand Highlander

Honestly been looking at those as well for my wife mainly because she does way more driving than i do.. My office is literally a half mile from my house so I'd keep the Sequoia.. but will the Highlander ive up the 35 mpg claim.. dunno even it gets 28-29 around town still better than what we're getting now..

Its amazing to me how quickly govt can pivot to figure out how to tax innovation but they cant build a 2 lane 1/8 mile bridge in 6 months or keep nola from flooding on a random rain shower.

Hybrids consume less gas

Mine sure as shite doesn't..

Yeah, Toyota has a "hybrid max" package that doesn't get much better gas mileage. Its more for high torque for pulling loads.

Fees should be based on vehicle weight. Done. Simple

Real question... what's the benefit of a hybrid if not gas savings?

Like others have said, extra power with better or at least no worse mpg. The Ford 150 hybrid is a rocket

They do pay a higher tax based on weight.

"Yes, taxes and fees can differ between sedans, SUVs, and full-size trucks in Louisiana, primarily due to differences in registration fees based on vehicle weight and type, rather than different sales tax percentages."

My hybrid sedan weighs about 3,500lbs, which is about 300lbs more than the non-hybrid version. I have to pay $60 because it's a hybrid.

The plate fee for a 6,000lbs truck is $40.

According to the Fourth Power Law, that truck does nearly 16x the amount of road damage that my 3,500lbs car does. And while my 45mpg is lovely, I'm pretty sure that 6,000lbs truck gets better than 2.8mpg.

Drove a bud's new S with the Performance package...

Excellent NVH, self-driving light years ahead of anyone else's, and FaF. $60ish.

It would humble any ICE car I've ever driven.

My LX is surpirsingly fast for how much it weighs.

Also, i'm flying to Florida tonight to buy a GT500 because it's time for something else to play with.

Aren’t you guys always whining about California doing stupid stuff? They haven’t passed that crap here yet.

Are you suggesting we don’t whine when Louisiana does stupid stuff?

Although I see the logic in taxing vehicles according to weight. But if we’re going to do that then let’s not tax fuel.
